The role of the Senior Content Strategist is to be the custodian of the voice of the Telfer School of Management in all manners relevant to how it communicates with its students faculty and staff alumni donors prospective students and community members. Develops overarching narratives that have meaning and relevance while raising awareness of Telfers high-level story as well as those emanating from all its units. The incumbent also ensures that the Brand Voice of Telfer is reflected in content and products that are aimed at all our stakeholders.
Provides strategic and tactical advice to Telfer sectors and its MarCom Department on how best to innovate and raise the profile of its services through compelling and creative content designed for a multitude of channels such as Web social media video and photography and targeted to current and potential students alumni and donors faculty and researchers and the wider community here in Canada and around the world.
Works closely with MarCom Strategists dedicated to Units the Managers of the Marketing and Communications Department on strategy development while overseeing when required the work of Digital and Social Media Specialists and other members of the team who develop content to maximize effectiveness relevance and adherence to brand guidelines.
In this role you will have the following responsibilities:
Leadership:
Oversight content strategies: Acts as the Teams resident content expert by managing planning and implementing content strategies for Telfer in collaboration with Managers other Strategists and the Associate Director Marketing and Communications.
Thought leadership: Participates in the development of strategic MarCom plans by setting priorities defining audiences adopting various tactics and methods and establishing key performance indicators. Delivers regular reporting of cross-platform performance metrics and makes recommendations to the Associate Director and Managers on improving the teams ability to further hone their messaging and storytelling capabilities.
Oversight brand voice: Oversees the development of Telfers brand voice and the manner in which to develop and contextualize content and narratives for business units.
Oversight of content and products: Directs the work related to content and product development from content developers marketing and communications strategists and digital and social specialists and other team members on important initiatives and Telfer-wide communications campaigns aimed at target audiences.
Editor in Chief: Directs content strategies as Editor in Chief of the Telfer Knowledge Hub and other Telfer-wide publications aimed at key stakeholders.
Training Expertise: Offers advice and training on how best to ensure that content creation is compelling while ensuring quality accuracy and consistency of messaging and tone.
Functional leadership: Ensures that the most up-to-date editorial practices and applied to MarCom materials and products staying abreast of developments in the field of communications and marketing and facilitating the teams adaptation to changing patterns in media consumption.
Working with others: Builds strong relationships with clients through regular and frequent project consultations to identify their needs and requirements.
Content development:
Content development: Plans and implements compelling content strategies and develops content (Web social media video photography and print) ensuring they meet and support the objectives and needs of the sector for which they are being developed while always considering the omnichannel marketing and communications vision of Telfer.
Suppliers: Hires manages and oversees the work of external suppliers such as freelance writers translators photographers videographers and graphic designers to produce a variety of marketing and communications tools and vehicles.
What you will bring:
Bachelors degree or equivalent education and experience preferably in communications journalism marketing or a related area;
Seven (7) years experience in journalism/communications/public relations writing and editing in French and/or English for print and the Web;
Proven experience in project management and the creation of digital and traditional content
In-depth knowledge of omni-channel marketing and communications user experience (digital/Web) and online engagement
Excellent ability to coordinate a variety of tasks under pressure managing priorities meeting strict deadlines and following up on deliverables
Strong organizational planning and analytical skills
Proactive creative and resourceful
Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to interact with creative professionals in a positive manner in a fast-paced environment
Ability to quickly assimilate complex information and to translate this information into plain language for a variety of audiences
