Job Summary

The Dental Director is responsible for the overall success of the dental program at NATIVE HEALTH and for meeting goals objectives productivity benchmarks clinic outcomes and driving future growth including oversight supervision and management of all dental clinic staff. This position ensures that the quality of dental care meets professional standards and complies with all regulatory and accreditation addition to administrative responsibilities the Dental Director provides direct patient care as a practicing dentist working 0.8 FTE in clinical care and 0.2 FTE in administrative duties. This role may occasionally require work beyond standard clinic hours. The Dental Director ensures that program development implementation and evaluation of the dental services is aligned with NATIVE HEALTHs mission and strategic plan.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Leadership and Supervision: Provides direction to the planning program design supervision leadership guidance and operation of NATIVE HEALTHs dental programs and strategies to ensure delivery of high-quality coordinated and patient-centered dental services.
  2. Quality and Compliance: Ensures that all dental services meet professional regulatory and accreditation standards for quality safety and effectiveness.
  3. Program Development and Integration: Provides guidance to the senior management team in the development of new programs and the delivery of dental services.
  4. Clinical Care: Provides comprehensive dental care including prevention diagnosis treatment and follow-up services within the scope of general dentistry.
  5. Supports the organization as needed. 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. In-depth knowledge of evidence-based dental medicine and current dental guidelines.
  2. Skills in providing diagnostic preventive and/or therapeutic services to patients.
  3. Considerable knowledge of public health community health and population health including finance budgeting and grant management personnel contracts laws and regulations and ability to understand and interpret relevant statistics and research documents.
  4. Ability to motivate train and supervise diverse staff effectively.
  5. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time.
  6. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  7. Ability to establish program goals and objectives and to assess progress toward their achievements.
  8. Ability to handle administration of multiple program sites and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with agency staff other agencies clients and the community.
  9. Ability to communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing in working out solutions to problems or questions relating to work.
  10. Ability to design implement and improve dental procedures and workflows.
  11. Ability to operate and design restorations using CEREC (Chairside CAD/CAM) technology.  
  12. Proficient with computer-based applications such EHR and Microsoft Office Suite.
  13. Ability to establish rapport and gain the confidence of others (dentists hygienists dental assistants patients and associates).
  14. Collaborative approach to interdisciplinary health care delivery.
  15. Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.
  16. Adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.
  17. Open to change and willing to lead change within the organization.
  18. Knowledge of the cultural and social backgrounds of the Native American and under or uninsured population.
  19. Demonstrate adherence to principles of confidentiality scientific/academic integrity informed consent and ethical practice.

Qualifications :

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Completion of an U.S. accredited dental school is required.
  2. Must have a permanent current full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in Arizona. 
  3. Must have current board certification in dentistry and maintain certification.
  4. Must have a current medication dispensing license (DEA).
  5. Must have at least five (5) years of experience as a dentist in outpatient dental practice. Experience in a community health center setting is preferred.
  6. Two years of experience as a dental director or in a senior management role is required with at least two to three years experience in supervising staff is required.
  7. Some travel is required to other locations to facilitate execution of responsibilities.
  8. Strong project management skills including complex projects resulting in measurable program growth.
  9. Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus.

Standard Employment Requirements: 

  1. Must have a valid and unrestricted Arizona drivers license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions.  Must maintain a valid AZ driver license during employment.  Must be insurable by NATIVE HEALTH liability auto policy.
  2. Must pass a criminal background check with a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment and retain a valid card while employed with NATIVE HEALTH.
  3. Must pass a substance abuse test upon employment and submit to a random test during employment.
  4. Must have an updated Immunization (IZ) Record at the time of employment.
  5. Must have a current (within 12 months) Tuberculosis (TB) skin test report upon employment and provide an update annually.   
  6. Must have a CPR Card prior to start of employment and maintain a valid CPR card during employment.
  7. Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within (90) calendar days of employment and maintain certification during employment.
