The Directors Office provides critical support to the departments executive team through communications financial services legal services and human resources. The landscape of corrections is constantly evolving and this team is at the forefront of managing this change on behalf of Montana citizens.

The Rehabilitation and Programs Division ensures the physical and mental well-being of inmates delivers educational and vocational opportunities within prisons and oversees community facilities dedicated to successfully reintegrating offenders into Montana communities. The Rehabilitative & Enterprise Division Deputy Chief assists the Division Chief in providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for the broad portfolio of offender focused services and institutional and community corrections support functions. The Deputy Chief is directly responsible for daily oversight and leadership of the Program Services Bureau the Education Services Bureau and the Community Corrections Facilities & Programs Bureau. These three Bureaus focus on advancing DOCs rehabilitative mission through services provided to inmates and residents at all DOC-operated and community-contracted facilities.

The position involves overseeing offender education and behavioral programming case management and community corrections engagement. Leadership and strategy responsibilities include providing vision for division bureaus and aligning goals with Public Safety and DOC objectives while fostering a culture of accountability and innovation. Collaboration within the division other DOC divisions and stakeholders aims at conceptualizing and operating value-add programs. Additionally the position supervises fosters empowerment and manages a team to achieve DOCs mission. Required skills include trust-building leadership communication and the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects

The knowledge skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Bachelors degree in public administration criminal justice business education or related field.

  • 5 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in corrections public administration or related field..

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex programs multidisciplinary teams and large budgets.

Preferred:

  • Experience with a correctional system environment.

  • Familiarity with Montana state government systems and processes.

Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
