A Brief Overview
The Diagnostic Imaging Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care in diagnostic imaging settings. Work closely with radiologists technologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure that imaging procedures are performed safely effectively and in a patient-centered manner. Provide nurse skills including pre-procedure assessment education and monitoring during imaging procedures. Communicate with patients and their families about the procedure answering questions and addressing concerns to ensure they understand the process and any potential risks.
What you will do
- Care for patients transported from the Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Care Unit.
- Perform nursing procedures treatments and administers medications/treatments as directed by a Radiologist or other physician.
- Provide support to the radiologist or technologist during imaging procedures ensuring a safe and efficient workflow.
- Transports or assists with transport of patients coming to and from Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Therapy. Monitor and evaluate patients functional status during transport and imaging procedures.
- Inform the technologist or radiologist of any unusual patient needs and performs specialized nursing duties such as administering IV sedation or analgesia during special procedures monitoring patients during special procedures administering medication for patients that develop an allergic reaction and evaluating patients with contrast extravasation.
- Assist with the preparation of patients for imaging procedures; IV access and port insertion.
- Conduct pre-procedure assessments to identify patient health history allergies medications and any other relevant factors that may impact imaging procedure. Review lab results vital signs and medical records to ensure patient safety before imaging procedures.
- Provide detailed information to patients about their diagnostic imaging procedure including preparation what to expect during the procedure and aftercare.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of patient assessments procedures medications administered vital signs and other relevant care details in the patients medical record. Ensure that all documentation complies with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Offer emotional support to patients who may be anxious or nervous about their procedure.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Associates Degree (AA) Graduate of an accredited school of nursing Required
- 1-3 years Critical care experience Required
- 1-3 years Experience in conscious sedation Preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and teamwork.
- Knowledge of safety protocols infection control and patient care standards in a diagnostic imaging environment.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care before during and after imaging procedures.
- Follow infection control guidelines to prevent patient and staff exposure to infectious diseases.
- Adhere to hospital policies regulatory guidelines and professional standards of care.
- Critical nursing care of all patient populations.
- Ability to perform assessments and reassessments on patients; communicating changes in condition with provider.

- Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association within 120 Days Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association within 120 Days Required
- Child Abuse Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days Required
- Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days Required
