Job Summary

Duration: 1 year contract with the possibility of 4 years extension

Shift Schedule: 8 or 10 hours shift between 8:00AM to 6:00 PM - Monday through Friday

Shifts per Month: Approximately 20 shifts per month per full-time position.

License Requirements

Must hold a current valid unrestricted Medical Assistant license in any U.S. state D.C. Puerto Rico or U.S. territory.

Certifications

Required:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred:
- ACLS
- PALS

Experience Needed

Must have minimum 12 months of Medical Assistant experience.
Must be local to the community or reservation

Special Skills Needed

Competence in venipuncture specimen collection and preparation for laboratory processing
Ability to assist with COVID specimen collection isolation procedures and vaccination efforts
Ability to provide support across all age groups: neonatal pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric
Experience with Point-of-Care testing (urinalysis pregnancy tests rapid strep rapid influenza blood glucose)
Ability to recognize interpret and respond to critical patient conditions
Strong communication and documentation skills; ability to manage patient calls and relay issues to nursing staff
Capability to work with multicultural and non-English-speaking patients using interpreters
Ability to learn and operate IHS information systems (EHR / RPMS)

Clinical Responsibilities

Screen patients and collect vitals
Assist in specimen collection COVID testing and vaccine clinics
Provide support for nursing visits vaccination administration and medication administration
Assist physicians and nurses in outpatient urgent care and other clinic settings
Perform POCT testing and phlebotomy
Recognize and respond appropriately to serious clinical changes in patient condition

Administrative Responsibilities

Answer patient calls and document health concerns
Maintain medical records and ensure HIPAA and Privacy Act compliance
Follow all facility conduct standards policies and procedures
Use IHS information technology systems in accordance with federal IT security requirements

Immunization / Health Requirements:
Must provide proof of immunity or vaccination for: MMR Hepatitis B Varicella Influenza Tdap; annual TB clearance; and additional requirements per IHS policy.

Credentialing / Onboarding Time: Typical onboarding requirement: 6 8 weeks.
