Job Summary

The Head of Sales will spearhead the revival and expansion of the companys sales operations driving growth across both the modern trade and the informal mass market. The role demands a strategic yet hands-on leader with the ability to restructure and energize the sales function unlock new distribution channels and transform the companys enhanced production capacity into profitable market share.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a dual-market sales strategy to grow volumes in both modern retail and informal trade.
  • Establish clear sales targets aligned with the companys expanded production capacity.
  • Continuously assess market dynamics (competitor activity smuggling regulatory changes) and adapt strategies proactively.
  • Design and implement profitable distribution models including van sales depots and distributor/agent partnerships.
  • Build strong distribution partnerships in informal markets ensuring wide penetration and consistent product availability.
  • Manage logistics and route optimization to ensure efficiency product quality and profitability.
  • Strengthen and expand partnerships with formal retail chains (OK PnP Spar etc.).
  • Negotiate favourable trading terms secure promotions and ensure consistent visibility and shelf space.
  • Recruit train and lead a high-performing sales team capable of executing both modern and informal trade strategies.
  • Define KPIs and performance management systems with regular tracking and accountability.
  • Develop and implement salesforce incentive schemes that reward high performance and drive results.
  • Develop trade marketing initiatives to stimulate demand and grow brand preference.
  • Drive campaigns promoting highlighting affordability nutrition and quality.
  • Implement consumer and trade promotions to increase uptake in informal and formal markets.
  • Prepare monitor and control sales budgets ensuring alignment with profitability targets.
  • Deliver accurate sales forecasts and track weekly performance metrics.
  • Ensure cost control and margin protection across all channels.
  • Support lobbying initiatives for removal of VAT on products and enforcement against illicit imports.
  • Represent the company in relevant industry and regulatory forums to protect and advance company interests.
Key Skills:
  • 8 years of progressive sales leadership experience in FMCG food or protein industries.
  • Proven track record in building distribution networks in both modern trade and informal trade.
  • Strong negotiation skills with experience in distributor and retail management.
  • Financial acumen with ability to manage budgets margins and profitability.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Sales Marketing Business Management or related field.
