Job Summary

PURPOSE STATEMENT

In cooperation with the nurse educator this position will supervise groups of up to ten students during clinical patient care training at local health care facilities and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. In cooperation with the nurse educator supervise groups of up to ten students during clinical patient care training at local health care facilities. Observe and enforce facility policies at all times.
  2. Assist the nurse educator in the clinical rotation and the classroom skills lab.
  3. Work with the nurse educator in the planning and tracking of students in their clinical rotation.
  4. Report student observations promptly bringing any significant issues to the attention of the nurse educator.
  5. Maintain complete and legible records of evaluation/observation of each student throughout the clinical internship.
  6. Assist in supervision and control of students in order to promote a safe orderly and positive learning environment.
  7. Perform all duties in the position within the scope of the Walla Walla School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
  8. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the nurse educator.
  9. Model appropriate and cooperative behavior including protecting confidential information consistent with district ethical guidelines.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the SEATech Director and the SEATech Health Science Careers Teacher

MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Required to deal with a wide range of student staff and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service oriented manner.
  • May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Required to stand walk sit use hands to hold handle feel and be able to reach with hands and arms kneel or crouch bend twist and talk/hear conversations and other sounds.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds stand or walk for extended periods of time and perform physical patient activities of daily living.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Must hold current unencumbered Washington State nursing license: LPN or RN; RN preferred. Copy of license must be provided.
  • One-year current bedside care experience within the past three years in either long term care geriatrics or medically fragile is required; previous long term care desired.
  • Must be willing to update skills and procedures to those currently dictated by the Washington codes directing Nursing Assistant Certification Program.
  • Must be currently certified in CPR/First Aid and have a current TB test.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Must meet all health care facility employee health requirements.
  • Evidence of positive recommendations and performance evaluations; excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of excellent attendance punctuality dependability; evidence of ability to be self-starter and self-disciplined.
  • Previous mentoring or proctoring experience helpful but not required.
  • Excellent human relations communication and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively with students staff and parents.

Licenses/Special Requirements

  • Must be able to provide own transportation to facilities.
  • Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation abuse injury or neglect of a minor.
  • Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Temporary non-represented
  • Eight (8) hours per day (typical schedule)
  • Tuesday through Saturday - actual days for clinical may vary (additional days may be added as needed)
  • Position begins approximately February/March and will continue part-time for up to three months
