Job Description
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct hands-on support to individuals with developmental intellectual or behavioral support needs. The DSP assists individuals in daily living activities community integration and skill development while promoting dignity independence and quality of life. Services are provided in accordance with person-centered plans and organizational policies.
Core Responsibilities
Direct Support (In-Person)
Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene meal preparation and mobility
Support individuals in home community vocational or day program settings
Promote independence choice-making and self-advocacy
Provide supervision to ensure health and safety
Support participation in community outings and social activities
Skill Support & Implementation
Implement individualized support strategies as outlined in person-centered plans
Follow behavior support guidelines developed by qualified professionals (when applicable)
Use positive respectful and non-restrictive approaches
Reinforce daily living social and communication skills during routine activities
DSPs do not design behavior plans and do not provide clinical ABA services unless separately credentialed and authorized.
Documentation & Communication
Document daily activities observations and incidents accurately
Communicate changes in behavior health or safety concerns to supervisors
Collaborate with supervisors families and team members as appropriate
Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Requirements
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to support individuals with varying levels of need
Reliable transportation as required
Ability to pass background checks and required screenings
