The Joliet Slammers are Joliets hometown professional baseball team competing in the Frontier Leaguea Partner League of Major League Baseball. Position Overview:
Step onto the fieldliterally and figurativelyand launch your culinary career with one of the most dynamic brands in independent baseball. The Joliet Slammers Chef Intern will work directly alongside our Director of Food & Beverage gaining meaningful hands-on experience inside a professional ballpark kitchen environment.
This internship provides immersive training across:
- High-volume food preparation and execution
- Culinary operations for a live sports venue
- Menu development and cost control
- Inventory management and ordering
- Scheduling training and supervising kitchen staff
- Special event planning and catering
- Cash handling operational paperwork and HR-related tasks
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Be available and on-site for all 51 home games throughout the 2026 season.
- Assist with daily kitchen prep cooking and end-of-day shutdown procedures.
- Execute high-volume culinary operations including fryers flat tops steamers ovens and large-scale equipment.
- Complete stocking restocking and detailed kitchen inventory.
- Support food and labor cost analysis for planning and reporting.
- Assist in preparing and executing non-game day catering events and special functions.
- Open and close the kitchen as scheduled.
- Assist with placing and receiving food orders.
- Direct and support game-day kitchen staff to ensure an organized efficient operation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Food & Beverage.
Qualifications:
- Must be available May 1September 5 2025 (flexibility for school schedules; part-time March start is a plus).
- Willingness to work long daysgame-day kitchen shifts
- Comfortable working nights weekends holidays and all (or most) home games.
- Strong communication skills and commitment to delivering top-tier customer service.
- Highly organized detail-oriented and reliable.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Team-first attitude with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Must bring professionalism positivity and a willingness to have fun.
- Culinary students or those pursuing hospitality/restaurant/event management are strongly encouraged to apply.
