The Role
The ABC is looking foran experiencedSupervising Producer based in Sydneyto help commission and curate content for thePMAudio Current Affairs program.
In this role you will use your journalism experience and production skills to commission stories thatset the news agenda provide in depth coverage and analysis and keep listeners informed. You willoutput live high-qualityaudiocurrent affairs content each day. You will provide strong editorial leadership and guidance to the reporters.
The Job
Generate stories that are relevant to a broad section of Australians and reflect the cultural geographic and socio-economic diversity of the country.
Actively engage with communities to find and tell stories that are relevant for them and in line with the News strategy.
Under broad direction commission stories and guide reporters on producing high qualityaudiocurrent affairs content that abides by the ABCs Editorial Policies.
Ensure the highest standards of interviews and analysis of politics and national issues international stories business/economics social issues arts culture and sport.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with thepresenters leads editorsand reporting teams.
Ability to develop a compelling provocative and entertaining dailyaudioprogram and help drive its agenda-setting aspirations.
Help to produce other Audio Current Affairs programs or special coverage as required.
Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent skills knowledge and experience.
Significant experience as a journalist with highly advanced radio writing and production skills.
Highly advanced ability to produceand outputnews and current affairs programs for radio to tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and best-practice craft skills.
Ability to identify the big stories and issues of the day and to drive new anglesto producevalueadded content.
Extensive knowledge of Australian politics and national affairs.
Experience in guiding teams and giving staff feedback under high pressure conditions.
High level ability to identify multi-platform content and work with digital teams to deliver quality content to the network.
Extensive understanding of the ABC Editorial Policies.
Demonstrated understanding and passion to source and create authentic content which represents the broad diversity of the Australian community including stories that reflect a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds and Indigenous communities.
A proven ability to source and maintain contacts across the broader Australian community.
