This role requires full time on site presence.

Your role:

CBC Halifax is looking for an energetic disciplined creative Associate Producer to join our afternoon radio program team Mainstreet. The Associate Producer should be an innovative individual who is passionate about storytelling and can share content across multiple platforms. You have a solid understanding of Nova Scotia and its diversity of communities. The Associate Producer is deeply connected to communities across Nova Scotia and demonstrates a diverse network of contacts.

The work will include pitching original story ideas daily creating program content in the field or in a studio writing intros questions and promos for segments you produce for the programs host and on air delivery as assigned. This person will also assist in providing program content to other CBC platforms such as CBC Listen and our local radio newscasts.

Key tasks:

- Provide (a wide range of) original story ideas.

- Assists in developing program content including writing researching and/or editing.

- Prepares radio scripts; ensures adherence to the style and format of the program.

- Organizes the participation of interviewees creative contributors and other participants develops background introduction and line of questioning conducts or arranges for any necessary research and ensures the briefing of hosts.

- Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability to act on them.

- Maintains contact files.

- Prepares material for digital outputs.

- Participates in the evaluation of all aspects of the production - including occasionally conducting interviews and being on air.

- Produces program elements including producer oversight responsibilities once a week.

- Writes continuity edits text and voicemail for broadcast.

- Vets content from the newsroom and adjusts it as needed to better suit the program style.

- Helps make lineup decisions.

- Edits encodes digitizes and packages audio and video material for a website.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

- Ability to generate pitch and pursue strong creative story ideas.

- Strong technical/editing skills in both dalet and avid.

- Proven ability to work in diverse teams.

- Working knowledge of digital news including social media.

- Flexibility with hours of work and willingness to learn and take on new tasks across all CBC platforms.

- Superior writing skills.

- Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.

- Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability to act on them.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively.

- High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.

- University degree or equivalent with a minimum of two years relevant experience preferred.

- Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts and late finishes.
