Description

The Council on Recovery is Houstons leading non-profit provider of prevention education treatment and recovery support services. For over 75 years The Council has been a trusted resource for individuals and families navigating substance use mental health and related challenges.

The Facilities Manager plays a key role in maintaining a safe clean and welcoming environment for everyone who walks through The Councils doors. This position supports the day-to-day operations of the building coordinates maintenance activities assists with events and office moves and ensures the facility runs smoothly.

The ideal candidate is dependable organized and takes pride in creating a space that supports healing recovery and community. This position requires 24-hour on-call availability. The employee may be contacted at any time including evenings weekends and holidays to address urgent matters.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Operations & Maintenance

Coordinate and monitor daily building operations including HVAC lighting plumbing elevators garbage removal security control system landscaping janitorial and general repairs.

Respond to maintenance requests and address facility issues promptly.

Schedule and track routine maintenance and inspections to keep systems running efficiently.

Perform light maintenance tasks such as changing filters replacing light bulbs or coordinating minor repairs.

Ensure the building and grounds are safe clean and in good working order.

Vendor & Contractor Coordination

Serve as the primary contact for facility operation & maintenance vendors and service contractors.

Schedule and oversee vendor visits to ensure work is completed correctly and safely.

Maintain accurate logs of maintenance requests vendor work orders and inspections.

Safety & Security

Support safety initiatives and emergency preparedness efforts.

Conduct regular safety and security checks throughout the building.

Report hazards damage or safety concerns immediately.

Administrative & Operational Support

Maintain records of repairs maintenance schedules and facility supply inventories.

Track and manage equipment disposition to ensure proper reuse or disposal.

Assist with ordering and restocking facility supplies.

Ability to handle ad-hoc projects as needed.

Event & Space Coordination

Assist in setting up meeting rooms and community recovery spaces for events and programs.

Move furniture or equipment as needed for setup or reconfiguration.

Ensure rooms are clean orderly and ready for scheduled use.

Project Support

Provide oversight and serve as point person for major and minor facility improvement projects performed by third-party contractors.

Help coordinate logistics schedule vendor visits and track progress on assigned projects.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Work Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum of 10 years facility management experience required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

General understanding of building maintenance and safety practices.

Ability to perform basic repairs and troubleshooting.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.

Comfortable working in a community-focused environment that values compassion respect and accountability.
