Job Summary

Job Summary/Basic Function:

This job opportunity will provide direct services to high school students. TRIO Upward Bound Educational Specialists are merged into the schools and provide either 1 on 1 or small group services that allow students to reach their potential. Specialists see the rewards that come with each service they provide. Additionally they will organize/attend fun student activities such as college visits community service enrichment activities and more!

This position spends most of the work week away from the Boise State University campus and instead on the Meridian High School campus in Meridian Idaho.

Department Overview:

We are a federally funded grant program through the US Department of Education that prepares students for college or vocational school through various enrichment courses intensive mentoring and academic support. We are passionate about helping students and creating a safe/welcoming work environment for all staff.

Level Scope:

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training. Typically hold a Bachelors Degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Essential Functions:

Provide participants information about postsecondary schools and/or programs; technical assistance in the area of college admission financial aid and scholarship; career information and referrals to post-secondary school career advisors if needed.
Coordinate academic services offered to enrolled students. to ensure complete academic assessment.
Under the direction of the Project Director develop academic classes to be offered under the program.
Create an individual education plan in collaboration with other staff for each individual. Maintain accurate documentation of their progress toward completion of their plan.
Facilitate small group sessions for participants who have a demonstrated need for improvement prior to enrollment in a postsecondary program.
Develop and coordinate a series of special topic workshops as directed by grant or Project Director (e.g. financial literacy study skills test anxiety).
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with postsecondary institutions and programs that participants may attend.
Maintain accurate and confidential records regarding participants academic progress while in the program.
Determine work assignments and class selection of teachers and/or instructors.
Provide information as needed to students regarding postsecondary opportunities including admissions financial aid and scholarships and assist as needed.
Assist the project director with the development and submission of the Annual Performance Report to the U.S. Department of Education.
Participate in the 6-week Residential Summer School program with duties designated by the Project Director.
Perform other duties as needed throughout the academic year as needed.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Experience teaching/coaching/mentoring youth.
Previous experience working with low-income and at-risk participants is a plus.
Background in financial aid admissions and basic skills curriculum design would be helpful.
Bilingual/bicultural/experience working with multicultural and/or limited income populations.
Willing to work some evening and weekend hours.

MinimumQualifications:

Bachelors Degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.

A valid Drivers License to drive University Vans.

Preferred Qualifications:

TRIO Alumni.
At least 2 years of experience working with low-income and/or first-generation students.
Bilingual in Spanish.
Idaho Secondary Teaching Certificate.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary starts at $50065.60 annually and is commensurate with State University provides a best-in-classbenefits package including (but not limited to):
