Lead the Climate Councils media strategy and team to amplify our voice on climate action. Youll act as a trusted spokesperson drive proactive and reactive media engagement and provide expert advice to our CEO and team. This role blends storytelling media intelligence and leadership to actively shape Australias climate conversation.

Youll lead a small high-performing media team (three staff with one direct report) and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure the Climate Councils voice cuts through in a busy media landscape.

This is a full-time role (38 hours per week) with flexibility and at times you may be required to work outside of ordinary hours to respond to breaking climate news or emerging media opportunities.

As the Media Director for the Climate Council you will have:

  • 10 years experience in senior journalism communications or public relations roles with a strong record of delivering high-impact media results.
  • Proven ability to act as a credible spokesperson by communicating complex or sensitive issues clearly confidently and persuasively.
  • Deep understanding of the Australian media landscape with strong networks and instincts for timely strategic engagement.
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture and contributing effectively at a leadership level.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • A genuine passion for climate and energy issues and commitment to evidence-based advocacy and impactful communication.
  • Be an excellent organiser and project manager with the ability to coordinate work manage competing priorities and deliver to standard.
