Working as part of a dedicated mixed-capability team the Forensic Accountant gathers intelligence on targets examines evidence and aids in the prosecution of offenders by compiling financial profiles and identifying ownership of these assets. This role is crucial in determining and quantifying legitimate and illegitimate financial income so that offenders cannot re-invest anyprofits derived from crime. We are seeking an experienced Accountant who can support investigations with detailed financial analysis. You will work with investigation teams to assist with interviews give evidence in Court and interact with members of the local and international financial business community.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare and present (written and verbal) information in a clear and concise manner
  • Utilise Excel and other financial analysis tools and experience with income determination methods
  • Manage time effectively to complete multiple files and meet deadlines
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of all information and decisions
  • Prepare manage and/or investigate files and manage risk in relation to investigations
  • Analyse financial evidence collected from criminal investigations and ability to prepare and present evidence at court
  • Display behaviours consistent with the core values of Police and contribute towards the strategic goals of the organisation
  • Manage inter-agency partnerships and relationship management

  • This role is based in the Auckland area. Some local and domestic travel may be required.

As a Forensic Accountant youll be part of the Money Laundering Team (MLT) and the wider Police Financial Crime Group. The role of MLT is to investigate money laundering targets and their enablers operating within New Zealand. MLT also provides specialist support to the National Organised Crime Group (NOCG) Police Districts and external partners to assist with high-profile international and domestic investigations.

The restraint and forfeiture of significant cash and assets derived from criminal activity is now acknowledged as one of the key success measures related to serious criminal investigations.

Utu ā-tau Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $102808 and $108894 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
