About the role

The Management Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the Nursing Councils financial sustainability and strategic decision-making.

Working closely with the Finance Manager this position ensures the effective delivery of financial services to Nursing Council leadership. The role supports budgeting and forecasting processes and providing proactive insightful business analysis to inform leadership decisions.

Key responsibilities will also include contributing to special projects and improving financial systems and processes.

The role will also be involved in normal Council financial activity as required including preparing monthly and annual reports managing reconciliations ensuring we meet our robust financial controls and ensuring compliance with statutory and audit requirements.

This position requires a Chartered Accountant qualification proven experience in management accounting and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate attention to detail a commitment to confidentiality and the ability to provide proactive financial advice. Upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi is integral to this role.

About you

You are a Chartered Accountant with proven experience in management accounting planning and analysis and youre confident operating in a complex values driven environment. Your technical capability spans budgeting and forecasting monthly and annual reporting reconciliations cash flow management variance analysis pricing and business case development and the design and application of robust internal controls. You are highly proficient with Excel and modern financial systems and comfortable using tools to automate reporting and improve processes; Power BI or similar data visualisation experience is an advantage.

You bring strong analytical judgement and can translate financial information into clear practical advice for leadership. You work with initiative and independence while maintaining high standards of personal organisation accuracy and timeliness. Integrity is central to your approach; you are trusted to handle confidential information with discretion and uphold professional standards at all times.

You demonstrate a genuine commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi embedding tikanga and cultural safety in your work fostering positive relationships with Māori and supporting the organisations Māori responsiveness workplan. Your communication and relationship building skills are excellent enabling you to collaborate effectively across the Finance function Executive Leadership Team and wider teams and to influence continuous improvement in financial processes and reporting.
