Reports to: Director of High School and Postsecondary Programs
FLSA Code: Full time Exempt with benefits
Hours: 40-hour workweek; occasional weekends and evening hours as needed

POSITION SUMMARY
Demonstrating the mission and vision of Breakthrough Urban Ministries the High School Coordinator will work with the Director of High School and Post-Secondary Programs to provide high quality services and programs to local high school students (ages 14-18).

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS
  • Host High School Hangout Outreach Night
  • Plan and host weekly skill building programs for high school teens
  • Manage teen employment programs along with the director
  • Coordinate year-round group mentoring groups for middle school and high school students
  • Create and/or source culturally relevant curriculum for group mentoring program.
  • Recruit students for high school programming.
  • Work with the Volunteer Engagement team to recruit and train volunteers
  • Coordinate youth stipends for participation
  • Collaborate with the team to help facilitate and host mentoring initiatives and programs
  • Collaborate with arts tech and sports programs to provide services for high school youth
  • Collaborate with the Behavioral Health team to refer students and families in crisis
  • Participate in special events pertaining to high school students and the agency at large
  • Provide support services opportunities for transitions between middle and high school as well as high school to post-secondary
  • Support college and career students as they transition into adulthood with ongoing relational support care packages check-ins etc.
  • Create learning and development opportunities for youth ages 13 24
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to enhance high school and post-secondary opportunities
  • Monitor and provide support to college scholarship recipients
  • Conduct college visits and facilitate college exposure opportunities for high school students
  • Support middle school youth families and program staff to provide input and direction for the next phase of life
  • Participates daily in the Nettie Bailey Student Achievement Program (K-8th after school program) including team meetings classroom/event oversight lesson planning instruction student engagement and interventions
  • Performs other duties and tasks assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of two years of experience in education social work ministry or another human services field is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with urban teens is required
  • Demonstrates comfort and skill using basic computer software such as Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook as well as other Windows based programs

  • Knowledge of trauma informed programming
  • Knowledge of urban issues regarding youth and families
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills professionalism and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and follow-through and be comfortable working in a changing environment

  • Must possess an accurate and informed understanding of cultural and urban realities especially as related to youth families poverty and community development.

  • Direction received from the Director of High School and Postsecondary Programs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee will work in an office located in a multi-purpose facility and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be high depending on the activities in the facility.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit; use hands and fingers to feel objects tools or controls reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; regularly talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend stoop pull lift as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift carry or move at least 50 pounds. Must adhere to proper handling and lifting techniques. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Equipment Used
The employee will generally use general office equipment including but not limited to telephone computer calculator copier overhead projector paper shredder paper cutter and filing systems.

COMPENSATION
$50000 annually
