Job Summary

Description

The HR Director is responsible for leading and implementing human resources strategies across the Japan organization. You will be the main point of contact for driving global inclusive leadership and equity initiatives supporting the other regions to deliver these initiatives locally. This role focuses on aligning HR strategies with business objectives fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring compliance with local and labor laws and regulations.

You will serve as a trusted advisor to the local leadership and the business stakeholders driving initiatives that enhance employee engagement talent development and organizational effectiveness on both regional and global levels.

  1. Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and implement regional HR strategies that align with corporate objectives and address local market needs.
    • Act as a strategic partner to local leadership providing insights and recommendations on workforce planning talent acquisition and organizational design.
  2. Talent Management
    • Lead talent acquisition efforts to attract retain and develop top talent within the Japan market.
    • Drive talent development and local training programs to foster researchers in various skill levels.
    • Oversee performance management processes to ensure alignment with business goals and employee development.
  3. Global Engagement and Culture
    • Collaborate with global and APEC HR teams to develop and implement inclusive leadership and equity strategies that resonate across diverse regions and cultures.
    • Foster a culture of inclusivity collaboration and continuous improvement globally and regionally.
    • Implement programs to enhance employee engagement satisfaction and retention at local level.
    • Serve as a global advocate for employees addressing concerns and promoting open communication across borders.
  4. Compliance and Risk Management
    • Ensure compliance with Japans employment laws and regulations staying ahead of changes that impact employees leadership and organizational practices.
    • Manage and mitigate HR-related risks including handling employee relations matters and investigations.
  5. Compensation and Benefits
    • Collaborate with global and APEC HR teams as well as finance teams to manage local compensation and benefits programs.
    • Conduct market analysis to ensure competitive and equitable pay structures including executive renumeration locally.
  6. Change Management
    • Lead HR aspects of organizational changes including mergers acquisitions and restructuring efforts.
    • Provide guidance and support during periods of transformation ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
  7. HR Metrics and Reporting
    • Analyze HR metrics to assess the effectiveness of HR programs and identify trends or areas for improvement.
    • Prepare regular reports for regional and corporate leadership.
  8. Team Leadership
    • Lead the team of local HR members to ensure a consistent delivery of quality service across the Japan organization.


Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Human Resources Business Administration or a related field (preferred).
  • At least 8 years of expertise and practical experience in the field of human resources.
  • Fluency in Japanese (Fluent-Native level) and English (Advanced business-Fluent level) required
  • Demonstrated expertise in employee compensation and benefits strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of the local employment laws regulations.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels both in Japanese and in English.
  • Excellent problem-solving analytical and decision-making abilities.
