Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Research Technician (at the rank of Research Assistant I) inThe Swire Institute of Marine Science(Ref.: 533463) to commence as soon as possible for 9 months with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance).
Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in a relevant field of programming information technology or similar and have competency with C# C Python and R. The successful applicant will conduct acoustic analyses of underwater sound data will be responsible for overseeing acoustic databases and also conduct boat-based fieldwork. Support will be provided for the softwares that are required for the project. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining acoustic monitoring hardware e.g. archival acoustic devices towed hydro-phone arrays DAQ and positioning systems.
The applicant must have excellent programming and database management skills; be willing to work flexible hours (including nights holidays and weekends); must pass a swim test (a scuba certification is also desirable but not mandatory) and; must work well in a team-oriented environment. Other desirable skill includes knowledge of computer-based software systems used in science including but not limited to github R PAMGuard Raven QGIS.
