Job Summary

Team Purpose: The Civic Education Program is part of the Advocacy Team a sub-team under the broader Chief of Staff Department. As a Chief of Staff Department we exist to collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders clarify ambiguity in internal and external opportunities and create solutions to support the current and future state of the organization. The Chief of Staff Team is directly responsible for the planning execution and progress monitoring of the KIPP Texas multiyear plan. 

Role Overview: The Manager of Civic Education will be based in Houston Texas and  will report directly to the Director of Civic Education. The Civic Education Program is in year two of a three year grant-funded program that paves the path to citizenship for KIPP Texas students families and staff members with green card status.  The Manager of Civic Education will play a vital role in designing a well-organized programmatic  experience for all internal and external stakeholders.  The Manager will work closely with the Director in their role of strategic oversight of  the design and scoping planning execution and progress monitoring of the KIPP Texas Civic EducationProgram. This position will be based in Houston TX. Some travel may be required. 

Key Responsibilities

Clear Communicator and Historian

  • Ensures clear and effective written and verbal communications with all internal and external stakeholders.

  • Leads the creation of programmatic communications such as flyers emails to families and PowerPoints.

  • Strategically develops and manages processes for collecting and storing artifacts and data from engagement events.

  • Creates historical insights and analysis to make recommendations for future program strategies.

  • Leads the design and maintenance of comprehensive records of program activities events and milestones to document the programs evolution and impact.

Designs logistics of Civic Education Program meetings and events

  • Lead communicator with operations and school based teams to maximize on building and facilities use for programmatic needs.

  • Creates and communicates processes to ensure compliance with building access and safety measures. 

  • Lead the procurement of all resources and create an evaluation and analysis process to ensure effective use of resources; create reports and make recommendations for future improvements

Strategic management of timelines deadlines and critical information for grant compliance

  • Tracks grant-related activities including budget reporting and compliance with grant terms.

  • Coordinates with the KIPP Texas Procurement and Accounts Payable departments and evaluates relationships with community partners.

  • Strategically manages and evaluates multiple projects with varying deadlines and designs processes to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Creates and updates program databases to track participant information metrics and other relevant data.

  • Gathers and utilizes data from various sources to analyze and make programmatic decisions and recommendations.

  • Uses data to create strategic reports and insights providing both short-term and long-term programmatic recommendations.

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the Advocacy Team and other departments to ensure cohesive program implementation and integration with broader organizational Goals.

Contribute to Chief of Staff Team culture through authentic engagement and participation in meetings and retreats. Participate actively in development opportunities and lead sessions for the team as asked and/or interested. Give honest constructive feedback via established feedback mechanisms (e.g. staff surveys) to ensure the continued improvement of the team and the organization. Seek to work by the values of the organization and to act in alignment with the Chief of Staff Teams community agreements. Represent the Chief of Staff Team responsibly to other stakeholders within and outside the organization.

  • Experience leading managing and  fostering strong working relationships with critical internal and external stakeholders

  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong internal and external stakeholder management and service-orientation.

  • Self-directed and results-oriented demonstrating proactivity and follow-through.

  • Experience with charter or charter-like schools non-profit strategy non-profit advocacy and civic education organizations and/or with students/families in low-income urban environments is preferred not required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google Suite. 

  • Ability to model KIPPs values at all times.


Qualifications :

Required Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelors degree  

  • Spanish fluency required 

  • Experience with supporting civic education and engagement efforts across multiple communities and understanding of the path to citizenship preferred not required

Work Environment:

  • Typical office environment with frequent interruptions. 

  • Hybrid policy requires three days in office per week.  

  • This role is based in Houston TX

Travel Requirements: 

Ability to travel to various locations throughout Houston and the greater metropolitan area with periodic travel to other KIPP Texas regions.


Additional Information :

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $60k-70k and placement in the salary range is commensurate upon experience and internal equity.
