Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to serve as the coordinator for the Tobacco Enforcement Program and assist in the administration and coordination of the CRF Tobacco Diabetes & Disparities and Cannabis Prevention grants within the Prevention Services Unit of the Worcester County Health Department. This position will plan develop and implement grant project activities as outlined in each project. This position will also collaborate with local law enforcement to implement tobacco sales compliance checks promote compliance with tobacco access laws conduct one on one tobacco retailer education and facilitate adult and youth tobacco cessation classes. This position will collaborate with local schools for the purpose of youth education and cessation services. Additionally this position will collaborate with community partners attend health fairs and provide tobacco & cannabis education to youth & adults throughout the community.

This position requires frequent outreach to the community and may require occasional weekend and/or evening hours.

The selected applicant must be willing and able to travel to all Worcester County Health Department sites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience: One year of experience planning developing implementing and promoting health education projects.

Candidates may substitute aBachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education Community Health Education Health Science or related behavioral science and two years of experience planning developing implementing and promoting health education projectsfor the required education and experience.

may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator andCommunity Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field ofwork on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • Excellent organizational time management & communication skills
  • Experience facilitating groups of diverse populations of both adults & children
  • Experience with planning coordinating promoting implementing & evaluating health education programs
  • Experience creating campaign message materials

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
