Responsibilities include but not limited to building strong relationships helping youth develop independent living skills and coordinating essential services. About Alternative Family Services

Alternative Family Services is a Foster Family Adoption and Mental Health Agency that has been serving abused and neglected children in our community since 1973. Our mission is to support vulnerable children and families in need of stability safety and well-being in communities. We provide a wide range of foster adoption mental health and transition-aged youth services in English and Spanish. We have eight locations throughout the Bay Area and 200 employees. Responsibilities
  • Write placement agreements between the resource family and the child or youth at the time of a new placement
  • Prepare and maintain case documentation on each youth and resource family according to the agency program manual and State regulations; ensuring all written material and computer data entry is completed in a timely manner
  • Develop a treatment plan for each child and family within four weeks of placement
  • Update treatment plan on a quarterly or semi-annual basis
  • Arrange for and coordinate services (i.e. tutors therapists medical personnel recreational activities etc.)
  • Provide regular in-home supervision
  • Provide resource parent training and support
  • Maintain contact with all agencies that have an effect on the childs life while in placement
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and resource parent meetings support groups and training sessions
  • Communicate and meet with childs birth family when clinically appropriate
  • Provide services via methods consistent with the agencys standards and policies
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy practices
  • Adhere to our attendance and punctuality policy
  • Visit client sites and transport clients using personal vehicle that is maintained in safe working order into a variety of community settings
  • Provide emergency and crisis response. Evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Social Work or related field that meets educational requirements as required by California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 22; or be granted an exception by California Community Care Licensing (CCL)
  • Obtain and maintain fingerprint and government and Agency required background clearances
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Able to drive and transport children into a variety of community settings using a personal vehicle that is maintained in safe working order
  • Current and valid California drivers license with an acceptable driving record current and valid auto insurance showing as an insured driver on the policy and vehicle registration
  • Possess a high level of integrity honesty and strong work ethic
  • If applying for Spanish-speaking pay differential must be able to meet linguistic needs of families
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form
  • Ability to serve a diverse client and family population with cultural awareness
  • Able to maintain a professional demeanor in a stressful environment
  • Able to interact calmly and professionally with clients who may act out due to behavioral disabilities
  • Able to interact with co-workers county representatives and other treatment team members as part of a cooperative team
  • Able to work with minimal direct supervision and manage time and prioritize workload
  • Able to respond to client and family crisis as needed which may require weekend and after hour response
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred*
Driving Requirements

This role involves working directly in the community and visiting foster homes and other public spaces throughout Marin County. Therefore it is essential that candidates possess a valid California drivers license and maintain valid automobile insurance that includes their name as an insured driver on the policy at all times.
