Job Description

Job Title: Payroll Clerk

Reports to: Director of Finance

Dept/School: Education Center

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: Clerical 6/239 Days

Date Revised:08/01/2023

Primary Purpose:

Assist the Payroll Supervisor in the monthly processing of payroll.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Possess general accounting and reconciliation skills of local state and federal requirements relating

to payroll processing issues and reports

Mainframe and personal computer knowledge with Skyward Software and True Time experience preferred.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and timely manner to meet established deadlines

Experience:

One to two years payroll experience preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Collect and consolidate information for the preparation of the monthly payroll including but not limited to new employees pay changes various deduction changes payoffs account coding pay adjustments etc.

  1. Ensure accuracy of payroll data input and calculations by balancing each payroll prior to payroll processing.

  1. Input statistical changes to the computer on employees; i.e. salary deductions stipends etc.

  1. Process monthly payroll: Input supplemental hours days docks balance and verify totals initiate the data output and process the direct deposits and checks to employees.

  1. Control payment of all liabilities generated through payroll including TRS and other benefit payments.

  1. Possess understanding and ability to interpret payroll policies and calculations to all district employees.

  1. Monitor and update True Time system as changes occur.

  1. Work cooperatively with human resources and business services as needed regarding employment-related issues.

  1. Maintain strict confidentiality.

  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Copier calculator personal computer printer and shredder.

Work with frequent interruptions to meet established deadlines. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.
