Job Description

Position Summary
The Kinsey Institute houses one of the worlds most comprehensive research collections on human sexuality and relationships encompassing over 700000 items spanning more than 2000 years of human history. The Kinsey Institutes diverse holdings are a renowned global destination for scholars and include rare books research journals manuscripts archives films videos fine art photography artifacts cultural objects and born-digital materials. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative (Visiting) Digital Librarian or Archivist to lead and support our efforts in describing preserving and providing access to digitized and born-digital materials. Reporting to the Director of the Kinsey Institute Library & Special Collections the Visiting Digital Librarian will collaborate closely with the Kinsey Institutes collections team Indiana University Libraries IU Information Technology Services external vendors and other potential partners to establish strategic digital preservation plans and to develop and implement workflows for the preservation processing description and access of digital assets. This role is pivotal in managing digitization workflows and digital records ensuring their long-term preservation and facilitating considered and thoughtful global access to these invaluable resources for scholars students and the public. This is an open-rank non-tenure-track librarian faculty position (rank dependent on candidate experience: Assistant Associate Full Librarian). The initial appointment is for one year and may be extended for one additional year depending on performance and the availability of funding. This is a fully on-site position. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement policies and procedures for the long-term preservation organization and access of digitized and born-digital materials in alignment with current standards and best practices. Lead the planning and execution of digitization initiative prioritizing physical collections to ensure high-quality digital conversion and integration into digital content management systems for preservation and access. Collaborating both internally and with potential external vendors provide guidance to the Kinsey Institute Library & Special Collections team on best practices for managing cataloging and preserving digital contents and records. Research evaluate and recommend digital preservation activities and opportunities for system evaluation and enhancement that align with the Kinsey Institutes mission and long-term strategic goals for digital preservation and access to its Library & Special Collections. Create documentation and implement workflows for processing digitized or born-digital collections to ensure accessibility for preservation and access purposes. Oversee digital repositories and related accounts. Participate in public service activitiesincluding reference assistance and instructional sessionsto promote digital collections; support digital content integration related to donor contributions.
