Senior Research Assistant / Research Assistant ()
The Department is seeking a Senior Research Assistant/Research Assistant to join a UGC-funded project on the history of singing history keeping and politics in precolonial and early colonial Mesoamerica. This project will use textual analysis translation and musicological analysis. The project is based in the Department of History.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct library and textual research;
- Perform digital searches;
- Help develop and maintain an online presence;
- Reaching out to libraries and archives to arrange procurement of research materials; and
- Assist in teaching and designing teaching materials
Requirements:
- A bachelors degree in History Musicology Anthropology Latin American studies or a related field;
- Proficiency in conducting manual and digital searches for research materials;
- Previous experience in website maintenance will be an advantage;
- Knowledge of Indigenous languages particularly Nahuatl is not required but an interest in them is encouraged. Knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable but not mandatory. Additionally familiarity with French Portuguese Italian Polish and/or German is considered beneficial;
- Strong English reading and writing skills; and
- Curiosity about the history of Indigenous America precolonial belief systems and expressions early colonial interactions and decolonial theory.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
