Salary Range
T7 $1073.40 per week plus 12% Superannuation.

Council Overview

Strathfield Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydneys Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46000 residents which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections the population will increase to over 60000 by 2041.

About the Opportunity

Strathfield Council is seeking a Student Planner to join our team on a temporary full-time basis assisting in adding value to our blossoming Planning and Place team. The commencement for this role will be in January 2026.

Reporting to an experienced Executive Planner Development Assessment you will be tasked with:

  • The assessment appraisal processing and reporting of a variety of Development Applications and Modification Applications.
  • Prepare reports and documentation to planning proposals.
  • Providing accurate written and verbal advice regarding land use zoning planning legislation Council policy and procedures.
  • Meeting the needs of customers (internal and external) to project and promote the image of Council as an efficient competent and courteous organisation.
  • Ensuring that all enquiries are answered in a timely manner as per Councils policies.
  • Follow Councils policies and procedures when carrying out work to ensure risks are managed. Report all incidents risks and issues to Executive Planner Development Assessment in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as directed by the Executive Planner Development Assessment and Manager Place & Place that are within the scope of your skills and training.

Essential Requirements

  • Currently studying at university and completing a relevant degree related to planning with a good academic record.
  • Experience in dealing with a range of customers and providing quality customer service.
  • Experience and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing.
  • Ability to analyse planning reports and proposals with attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft applications.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to always handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Possession of a current unrestricted NSW Driver Licence.
