Job Description

OVERVIEW

Intro to Position

NPR seeks a highly-motivated individual to join NPRs Office of General Counsel (OGC) and support NPR attorneys with their legal work including reviewing drafting and managing contracts assisting with litigation file management and providing administrative support and other project support and research as needed. We are looking for a candidate with an exceptional ability to multitask superb oral and written communications skills and a commitment to client service. An ability to work in a fast-paced mission-driven environment manage multiple priorities thrive under pressure and maintain composure while doing so are musts.

The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is six months with a start date for this position of November 3 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high quality work product including coordinating contract lifecycle including intake drafting revising finalizing and filing contracts and other legal documents under attorney supervision and ensuring consistency with prior documents of a similar nature.
  • Assist NPRs Data Protection Officer and internal clients with data privacy compliance matters including managing related documents responding to data privacy requests research projects and other tasks;
  • Assist with litigation file management calendaring and discovery;
  • Assist attorneys within the department with special projects and research tasks as requested; and
  • Cultivate support and promote diversity equity and inclusion in the workplace and an inclusive and equitable workplace culture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0-3 years of relevant experience as a contract specialist paralegal or legal assistant.
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts and experience drafting reviewing processing and tracking commercial contracts.
  • Legal drafting skills with the ability to achieve consistent language across agreements that are similar in nature.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite Google Docs; well-developed Internet document management and legal research skills. Experience using Adobe Acrobat required.
  • Ability to multitask and juggle deadlines simultaneously with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities from team leadership on short notice; ability to meet project deadlines.
  • First-rate attention to detail.
  • Clear and concise written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Highly collaborative with a focus on serving as a supportive member of a busy legal department in a complex fast-paced organization.
  • Fast learner with strong organizational skills and ability to work well under time pressures where meeting deadlines is a priority and handling multiple matters simultaneously is the norm.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity and interest with one or more of the following substantive areas of law is a plus: public media; data privacy; nonprofits; content distribution.
  • Experience using a database for contracts lifecycle management.
  • Experience with Salesforce SpotDraft and/or DocuSign is a plus.
  • Interest in media broadcasting and/or public radio.
  • Experience with calendar management and scheduling meetings among multiple parties.
  • Experience with administrative tasks related to litigation.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Work Location & Requirements

  • Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be onsite at the Washington DC office typically one day per week; but at least 10 days a year. The employee must also reside in an NPR-supported location based on the number of onsite days they choose.

Job Type

  • This is a temporary (6-month) full time position.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: The U.S. based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $36.54 per hour. The rate displayed reflects the maximum hourly rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.

Benefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPRs benefits options.
