The Development team is responsible for both the fundraising and marketing functions of House of Friendship to grow financial support that sustains the mission of House of Friendship into the future and to build awareness and affinity for our brand throughout Waterloo Region. The Development Manager is responsible for the insight-based planning implementation and analysis of the Annual Giving program including identifying inspiring thanking and reporting back to donors to effectively grow donations annually. Donor groups include all who give to the Annual Fund excluding Major Donors. The Development Manager will give leadership to the Annual Giving team.
** This is a permanent salaried full-time (37.5 hours per week) position with paid sick time personal days vacation time; group health benefits and defined contribution pension plan.
Schedule generally weekday daytime hours. Occasional evening/weekend work required to support events. Valid G class drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle required; local travel within Waterloo Region. **
Key Responsibilities:
Using insights firmly rooted in solid fact-based analysis and fundraising best practices plan create and execute a robust Annual Giving program that delivers the budgeted growth with continual improvement opportunity analysis idea testing and priority-based decisions at the core
Includes all activities related to the identification cultivation and stewardship of donors results tracking and reporting as well as House of Friendship events and gift processing
Effectively lead inspire mentor develop and support direct reports
Collaborate with the other Development team colleagues to achieve Department objectives
Provide inspiration and support for the Annual Fund with the broader House of Friendship team
Build relationships that inspire donors volunteers and community partners to support our mission
Successfully lead and implement change to achieve continual improvement
Provide leadership and mentorship to the Donor Database Coordinator and team of users to optimize excellence in use analysis reporting and processes
Effectively inspire thank and report back to donors to ensure strong retention and donation growth ensuring full alignment with fundraising best practices
Support Development Director with ad hoc projects and initiatives as assigned
Represent Development at ad hoc events/committees as required
Lead develop and support the team of Supervisors as well as their teams working within assigned programs including staff volunteers and students
Responsible for the healthy and safe operation of the programs; ensuring a physically and psychologically healthy work environment for all team members
Responsible for the allocation of staff students and volunteers based on the needs of each program and/or site
Responsible for all aspects of program operation including program development and review program budget allocation of resources and relationships with funders and community partners staff and participant safety
Represent House of Friendship at various community development and neighbourhood related meetings and community forums; bringing relevant issues and solutions to the conversation
Take a lead role in community consultation and community leadership development initiatives
Job Specific Knowledge/Skills:
Very strong leadership team building and decision making skills required including demonstrated strength in coaching and developing people and teams with at least 3 years previous experience leading a team
Experience working with student and volunteers considered an asset
Experience with coaching and mentoring for personal growth and development including the ability to coach others through conflict
Demonstrated skill in building and maintaining productive relationships (staff community partners funders)
Proficient donor-centric communication skills both oral and written that inspire and engage
Strong leadership and decision-making skills with a passion for and experience in coaching and developing people and teams
Excellent insight-based strategy decision-making and analysis skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent planning organizational follow through process optimization and time management skills
Strong proficiency in Raisers Edge NXT that optimizes its benefit to the organization and to the individual users
Self-directed with high capacity to manage multiple priorities and timelines
Excellent ability to maintain confidentiality of key constituents at all times
Easygoing and approachable with a positive attitude
Education/Experience:
Undergraduate degree in Business Marketing Fundraising Communications or related field is required; CFRE designation or progress towards it is considered an asset
A fundraising practitioner with a minimum of four (4) years demonstrated success leading high impact fundraising and stewardship events in the social profit sector
A natural proven relationship builder and collaborator who is adept at creating authentic relationships with a wide variety of constituents including community leaders/partners donors sponsors colleagues and volunteers
Critical Skills:
Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
Exemplary emotional intelligence resilience communication conflict management and problem solving skills required
Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff participants and community members
Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds income levels and sensitivity to their needs
Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation program design evaluations of processes and service delivery
Must be dependable professional flexible a team player and have a positive attitude
Respectful supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities addictions mental illness and other life challenges
Excellent project timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics planning and detailed record keeping

Rate of Pay:
At House of Friendship all compensation ranges are categorized under a series of grades and we base our payment structure on internal determining rate of pay a candidates past related experience will be taken into consideration.
Grade: 6 (Manager I)
Min: $33.94
Mid: $38.58
Max: $43.23
Working Conditions:
37.5 hours per week; generally daytime weekday hours
Occasional evening and weekend work to support events
Vacation may not be taken two weeks before or after Signature Events or in the month of December leading up to Christmas
Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected
This is a hybrid role with the expectation that you will be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week to support your direct reports exact in-office days will be negotiated with the Director of Development:
During the first three months of onboarding you can expect to work in the office at least 4 days per week to support team building training and integration
This arrangement is subject to change based on the evolving needs of the organization and the team
