Job Description

EMBL Heidelberg is looking for a project manager to join the Health and Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim Data Space.


The Health and Life Science Alliance is building an inter-institutional data space to facilitate data sharing joint data analyses and seamless integration with existing projects and data ecosystems. Our platform will empower researchers to collaborate across institutions utilizing cloud and on-premise computing and storage resources to drive scientific innovation.

Your Role:
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to coordinate the implementation of the Health and Life Science Alliance Data Space. You will oversee planning execution and reporting of this multi-stakeholder project ensuring timely delivery budget adherence and alignment with research and institutional priorities. Your role will be central in managing cross-functional teams facilitating communication and maintaining alignment between technical development and project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage project plans milestones and budgets in coordination with technical and institutional stakeholders.
  • Facilitate regular communication across development teams alliance partners and administrative units.
  • Track progress identify risks and coordinate mitigation strategies.
  • Organize and lead meetings reviews and workshops to ensure transparency and engagement.
  • Support reporting to funding agencies and project governance bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance privacy and institutional policies.
  • Serve as a key contact point for stakeholders users and collaborating organizations.

You have:

  • Degree in Engineering Computer Science Life Sciences or related field.
  • Experience managing complex interdisciplinary IT or research infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and cloud-based solutions.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g. YouTrack ClickUp Jira Confluence).
  • Excellent communication coordination and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders and teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Project Management (PMP PRINCE2 or equivalent).
  • Experience in academic research environments or publicly funded projects.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and compliance frameworks (e.g. GDPR).
  • Background or familiarity with health/life sciences research data.

Length of contract: 2 years

Salary Grade: 5 starting at 4.031 EUR/ month (after tax and before 12.05% EMBL social security deduction)
