Job Description

THE VANCOUVER SCHOOL BOARD WELCOMES APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF:

BUDGET ANALYST
(TECHNICAL & RESOURCE SUPPORT E)

Department : Accounting
Hours : 7 hours per day

This position is 100% in-person at the VSB Education Centre (1580 West Broadway)

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and resource support to the Finance Department
  • Works directly with budget holders reviews and monitors expenditure against budget analyses and investigates variances determines and initiatives corrective action when necessary and makes appropriate recommendations to management
  • Develops and maintains budget monitoring systems procedures and budget data integrity
  • Facilitates meetings with budget holders and leads budget presentations
  • Formulates projections and ad-hoc analysis based on a wide variety of data sources and inputs provides future-oriented information that informs management decisions making
  • Coordinates and prepares budget submissions to the Province with operational input from a wide range of budget holders
  • Supports program managers in developing financial acumen and an understanding of organizations accounting and budgeting policies and procedures
  • Prepares recommended journal adjustments for budget and accounting entries
  • Analyzes processes and systems and develops and designs improvements
  • Provides information to and interacts with external auditors
  • Perform other duties within the band as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus a degree in any of the following areas: Accounting Business Finance or any related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience
  • A valid CPA designation or a Masters degree in related field preferred
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) is considered an asset
  • Experience working in supporting the budget process within publicly funded organization is considered and asset
  • Candidates must possess proven ability to: establish priorities and meet tight and possibly conflicting deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment apply good judgement and problem solve
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong analytical skills and Excel skills
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials (or another tier 1 Enterprise Resource Planning software) preferred
  • Candidate must be able to meetthe following assessments: Excel (70%) and the applicable Accounting assessment

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position is $84393 plus a comprehensive benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan Vancouver Employee Savings Plan Extended Health Dental Group Life Long Term Disability Vacation & Gratuity Days.
