Job Description for Bookkeeper (Trade and Construction)
As a Bookkeeper (Trade and Construction): The Accounts Department specializes in bookkeeping payroll and financial management services tailored to trades and service-based businesses. We handle Xero software setup weekly account reconciliation payroll processing BAS preparation monthly financial reporting budgeting and cash flow forecasting enabling business owners to focus on growth and profitability.
Our team currently manages 20-30 clients with a 50/50 split between trade and service-based businesses. We aim to acquire 2 new clients per month with the goal of reaching 100 clients within four years. We are now looking for a Senior Bookkeeper to join our team and help us achieve this exciting growth.
Your Responsibilities as a Bookkeeper would be:
Manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks including accounts payable accounts receivable and general ledger entries.
Reconcile bank statements and ensure accuracy of financial records.
Manage receipts accounts receivables and payables.
Utilise Xero for bookkeeping and financial management tasks.
Prepare payroll processing and compliance including superannuation.
Ensure compliance with Australian tax laws and regulations including GST and BAS.
Conduct month-end and year-end close processes.
Utilise practice management software to update daily tasks.
Prepare and send engagement letters.
Document processes manage calendar bookings handle email management and organise client gifts.
Apply critical thinking to easily spot mistakes in reports and raise issues proactively.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
We are looking for someone with:
At least 3 years of proven bookkeeping experience in an Australian setting; experience in the trades or construction industry is nice to have but not required.
Strong knowledge of GST BAS payroll and superannuation requirements.
Proficiency in Xero accounting software.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office especially advanced Excel (formulas VLOOKUPs pivot tables).
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Critical thinking and the ability to proactively identify and address issues.
Courage to ask questions and raise concerns.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
An Accounting degree is not required.
