OFFICIAL TITLE: Associate Principal WORKING TITLE: Associate Principal REPORTS TO: Principal YEAR: 12 MonthsSUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: To serve as a professional associate leader in the implementation of the philosophy and policies of the school system. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Associate to the Principal (second in command).2. Supervise scheduling of students.3. Handle specific duties assigned related to school management.4. Coordinate staff professional development.5. Supervision of Assistant Principals directors and instructional leaders assigned by the Principal.6. Work cooperatively with all professional staff.7. Provide leadership in the instructional program. This function shall be under the direction of the Principal.8. Responsible to the Principal for the organization supervision and administration within the building.9. Assist the Directors and instructional leaders in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures relative to the instructional program.10. Supervise Directors and instructional leaders in instructional and scheduling areas as assigned by the Principal.11. Constantly appraise and evaluate the instructional program and make provisions through Directors and instructional leaders for its continual improvement.12. Work cooperatively with the teaching staff for the best interests of the students.13. Responsible with the Principal Manager of Educator Quality and instructional leaders for the selection and assignment of the teaching staff within the building.14. Responsible for the promotion of the health and welfare of the students and teachers insofar as possible while school is in session.15. Responsible for organizing and supervising the school campus corridors and lunchrooms while school is in session.16. Responsible for the evaluation of growth classification and guidance of students within the building.17. Oversee the attendance of students by using the facilities of the attendance officer.18. Responsible for supervising the entire school in the absence of the Principal.19. Responsible for maintaining good public relations.20. Support school administrators organizations at the local state and national level.21. Work closely with all community agencies and other bureaus involved with the health and welfare of students on a referral basis.22. Responsible for other related duties as assigned by the Principal.23. Other related tasks as assigned by the Principal Superintendent of Schools and Assistant responsibilities shall include:MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: 1. Certification as a Secondary Principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.2. At least five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level and/or administrative experience.3. Familiarity with Educational Reform IDEA and 766 NCLB and School Improvement Planning including Turnaround.4. Evidence of administrative and leadership ability.5. Evidence of capacity and disposition to work cooperatively with pupils parents teachers and school administrators.6. History of satisfactory attendance with the New Bedford School Department or other districtTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-Union 12-month Year positionPHYSICAL DEMANDS (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing): Frequent fine motor use such as typing filing. Frequent standing walking sitting bending stooping as needed. May occasionally lift push pull up to 30 lbs.
