Job Description

Description:

The K-12 Instructional Specialist will be responsible for the development and implementation of coherent instructional programs from kindergarten through high school for all subject areas. These programs will be aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) the Texas English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and post-secondary college and career readiness standards. The Specialist will lead the development implementation review and revision of K-12 curricula instructional strategies and assessments. The Specialist will serve as the liaison to develop and deliver effective professional learning that assists teachers and administrators in developing the skills tools and techniques to ensure that all students in ResponsiveEd schools will learn and engage with content at or above grade-level. Additionally the Specialist will provide leadership technical assistance and support for all ResponsiveEd instructional programs and initiatives.

Education/Certification

  • Bachelors degree in Education or a related field (Masters preferred)
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification
  • Valid Texas Administrator Certification (preferred)
  • Campus leadership experience (preferred)
  • ESL and/or Gifted certification (preferred)

Experience

  • 5 years teaching experience
  • 3-5 years instructional and/or educational leadership experience
  • 3 years related management experience
  • 3 years experience providing adult professional development (preferred)

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of research-based best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of best practices for the writing of K-12 core subject area curriculum.
  • Knowledge of effective strategies related to content-related language acquisition among ESL and bilingual students.
  • In-depth knowledge of K-12 ELAR Math Science and Social Studies subject area TEKS and state adopted K-12 assessments.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work interactively with teachers administrators and district-level staff.
  • Ability to write reports business correspondence and policy/procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators teachers and department leaders.
  • In cooperation with the Division of Academics develop and execute the delivery of professional learning for teachers specialists and administrators.
  • Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Analyze student performance data and develop plans to meet identified student needs.
  • Monitor the quality and implementation of instructional program activities and make recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  • Ability to collaborate with the instructional team to foster continuous improvement of curricula.
  • Act as a support to Brand Superintendents and members of the Academic Division for the selection adoption budgeting and evaluation of instructional materials (textbooks software and instructional technology) to ensure alignment with state standards district curriculum and comprehensive district vision for education within ResponsiveEd schools.
  • Strong familiarity with research-based pedagogy across subject areas.
  • Familiarity with state and national standards.
  • Familiarity with web-based curriculum delivery programs.
  • Travel to ResponsiveEd campuses is required with overnight stay when warranted and the role demands flexibility in work location to support schools directly.
  • Demonstrate effective instructional strategies in the classroom as needed.
  • Develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships with colleagues across the district.
  • Organize curriculum and materials within the warehouse bays and coordinate with the curriculum department on various ordering/inventory needs.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Primary Duties

  • Review further develop and direct a K-12 comprehensive vision for instruction at the primary elementary and secondary levels including both short-range and long-range plans for implementation.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for campus content specialists in design development and implementation of interventions instructional strategies local assessments and professional learning around a balanced philosophy that includes the direct teaching of vocabulary problem-solving technologys impact critical thinking skills and general literacy.
  • Research analyze and make recommendations for the enhancement redirection and/or expansion of current programs and services.
  • Ensure instructional strategies and instructional coaching plans align to the TEKS ELPS and T-TESS rubric.
  • Analyze student performance data and develop plans to meet identified student needs.
  • Act as a committee member for the selection adoption budgeting and evaluation of instructional materials (textbooks software and instructional technology) to ensure alignment with state standards district curriculum and comprehensive district vision for instruction.
  • Develop and lead the delivery of professional learning for teachers specialists and administrators.
  • Monitor the quality and implementation of program activities and make recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  • Direct organize and monitor the quality and implementation of district-level academic events or initiatives.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to teachers and building administrators.
  • Collaborate with the Departments of Special Education ESL/Bilingual Services Advanced Academics and Career and Technical Education to ensure alignment and high quality instruction materials and professional learning for all teachers of these populations of students.
  • Develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships with colleagues across the district specifically with elementary and secondary school leadership.
  • Provide regular updates of programs activities and services to appropriate audiences.
  • Develop and implement plans for the evaluation of programs.
  • Stay abreast of current research best practices and trends related to instruction.

Physical / Environmental Factors

  • Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Indoors in a controlled environment exposed to weather elements when transporting to and from building and car and exposed to dust from books.
