TITLE: Director of Operations

REPORTS TO: School Business Official
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Superintendent and SBO
BASIC FUNCTION (BF1): Provide leadership vision and guidance for the district Office of Operations. Directs the work and evaluates the effectiveness of staff processes systems and outcomes for all areas of operations building/grounds custodial maintenance and transportation. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. HIRING SPECIFICATIONS (HS1-18):
Demonstrated experience or willingness to acquire skills:
Provide leadership and supervision for campus custodians operations staff and transportation staff
Supervise implementation of district procedures for programs pertaining to plant and building maintenance operations transportation construction safety/security and purchasing
Maintain and prepare records and reports as requested by the superintendent and the board
Lead and collaborate in the development and implementation of the 5-year strategic facilities improvement plan
Lead in the area of school transportation including staffing operations logistics infrastructure and systems for effective outcomes
Evaluate departmental policies and practices and ensure that programs are implemented in accordance with board policies and procedures
Provide leadership to staff in preparing and implementing programs and services in conjunction with the districts strategic plan
Manage information and conflict by being available to meet with staff parents students and community members on school district issues
Initiate recommendations for services improvements and purchases for the district
Conduct staff evaluations coaching and performance management
Provide cost-benefit analysis for areas of responsibility
Prepare annual budgets in collaboration with the School Business Official and Leadership Team
Provide regular reports and make presentations to the board of directors oversight groups school community and the general public regarding areas under the responsibility of the Office of Operations
Develop procedures and ensure their proper execution for budgeting scheduling estimating value analysis design/construction reviews payment management and project closeout
Work with instructional personnel in developing and maintaining general educational specifications for school construction
Serve as a member of the Leadership Team
Represent Fairfield Community Schools effectively in the community state and nation
Lead in other duties as may be assigned.
ABILITIES (A1):
This position will require physical demands including constant standing walking reaching pushing/pulling lifting under 100 pounds and carrying items at least 35 feet. There will be frequent climbing of stairs and manual dexterity tasks. There will be occasional sitting and vehicle driving. The working conditions will be constantly inside/outside with extremes of temperature and humidity.
KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION (KE1-7 and KED1):
Required:
Bachelors Degree or experience in a related field as deemed appropriate by the board
Experience in the area of construction and facilities management
Understanding of complex organizational systems
Knowledge of school transportation systems
Hold or obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
Hold or obtain a State of Iowa School Bus Operators Permit
Valid drivers license.
Desired:
