Employment Begins: 2024-2025 School Year

8.0 hours/day; 5 days/week; 260 days/year

LOCKSMITH

STANDARD POSITION DESCRIPTION

Classification: Locksmith Location: Maintenance

Reports to: Director of Facilities FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Bargaining Unit: International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302

This is a standard position description to be used for positions with similar duties responsibilities classification and compensation. Employees assigned to the position description may or may not perform all of the essential functions indicated in this position description.

This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.

Part I: Position Summary:

Serves as a journeyman level locksmith responsible for installing repairing and servicing mechanical or electrical locking devices to include access control systems.

Part II: Supervision and Controls over the Work:

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities and/or Grounds and Maintenance Supervisor. Locksmith trade work is performed independently and in conformance with local city county and state codes and standards of the profession. Work is reviewed for timeliness completeness appearance code compliance safety and established priorities.

Part III: Major Duties and Responsibilities (depending on specific assignment):

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Installs and repairs mechanical and electrical locking devices to include access control systems.
  2. Diagnoses operational problems in locks disassembles repairs replaces tumblers and parts and reinstalls locking devices.
  3. Repairs or replaces worn tumblers springs and other parts.
  4. Makes measurements and cuts materials to exact specification for placement of locks.
  5. Keys locks to building requirements for individual or master key devices cuts blanks and duplicate keys maintains master keys.
  6. Other duties as assigned by Director of Facilities and/or Grounds and Maintenance Supervisor.

Part IV: Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Incumbents must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population.
  2. Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  3. Must have completed an apprenticeship or the equivalent within the specific trade/craft area.
  4. Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential.
  5. Must possess a valid Washington State drivers license and a safe driving record and be able and willing to operate district owned vehicles.

Part V: Desired Qualifications:

  1. Two years of journeyman level experience.

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to bend sit talk move about hear and speak. Employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions especially in emergency repair situations.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and greater than 60 pounds using appropriate equipment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and work with close tolerances..
