Job Summary
In addition to performing skilled locksmith work the Lead Locksmith works under the Supervisor Locksmith and is responsible for providing lead work direction to a small group or crew of skilled Locksmiths other skilled crafts workers and their assistants as well as the planning design and oversight of the implementation and maintenance of a campus-wide master lock and key program.
Key Responsibilities
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the methods materials tools and equipment used in the locksmithing trade including recognized safety practices. General knowledge of the California State codes relating to fire exits door locks hardware and fastening devices. Thorough knowledge of all types of locks fastening devices and related hardware; including electronic locks. Ability to establish and implement a great grand grand or master keying system in a new building structure with multiple departmental occupancy and separate keying needs. Ability to determine staffing material and equipment needs for individual jobs. Ability to plan direct and supervise the work of skilled crafts workers and semi-skilled workers. Ability to read blueprints and work from plans and specifications. Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt actions. Ability to keep records and prepare simple reports. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position. Ability to make arithmetic computations where required.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies procedures and guidelines including but not limited to safety civility information security and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the universitys commitment to a vision of excellence.

Physical Summary
Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing squatting kneeling or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5998 - $8737 per month.

1.0 time-base 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
