The staff and students in the Office of Disability Resources and Services envision an educational environment that is inclusive and embodies the equality of opportunity. As such we work with students faculty and staff to coordinate accommodations refer to on-campus and off-campus resources assist with advocacy and address any attitudinal and/or architectural barriers that might impede participation in curricular and/or co-curricular activities.
The Director of Disability Resources and Services will provide senior leadership and management for all aspects of disability-related operations for CU Denver. The Director shall work to ensure that students with disabilities have full access to all the learning opportunities and full programmatic access to all activities and events offered by the university.
Disability Resources and Services Director
What you will do:
Program Management:
Leadership:
Articulate and implement department vision mission and values.
Design and implement training for Faculty and Staff who serve students.
Determine departmental priorities manage multiple projects/tasks.
Participate in disability-related state and national organizations.
Serve as a subject matter expert and consult with university-related constituents.
Develop and implement a collaborative planning process to develop the departments new strategic plan including measurable outcomes.
Supervision:
Collaboratively develop yearly performance plans for direct reports; complete final year-end job evaluation of performance-related goals.
Conduct weekly staff meetings for all staff.
Budget and Fiscal Compliance:
Oversee departmental budget and compliance with university fiscal policies.
Outreach and Collaboration:
Engage all disability staff to participate in university committees and/or task forces.
Develop and implement presentations for academic departments regarding both general disability-related information as well as any specific topics they request.
Legal:
Assist staff with maintaining current legal knowledge through monthly legal journal subscription as well as access to seminars (in-person and on-line).
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Preferred Qualifications to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
Doctorate in education special education counseling rehabilitation counseling psychology or human services field.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws i.e. Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act along with relevant case law pertaining to disability in higher education. The types of accommodations available for students with disabilities in the postsecondary setting.
Assertive Communication Skills Assessment Skills Conflict Resolution and Mediation Skills Interpersonal Skills Organizational and Time Management Skills and Problem-Solving Skills.
Ability to mediate in meetings regarding disabilities accommodations and grievances.
Ability to conduct a thorough review of medical and /or psychological documentation and follow up with appropriate professionals regarding current functional limitations while coordinating necessary accommodations with faculty administrative and facilities staff.
Ability to develop and present information regarding the assessment and implementation of accommodations in the postsecondary setting.
Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural differences.
Demonstrated effectiveness in case management.
Ability to develop and present educational programs to faculty staff and community.
Familiar with current disability-related trends in higher education.
Familiar with best practices for disability-related programs in higher education.
Conditions of Employment
Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $91957 - $95000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity experience education specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
