Job Description

About the team

As Turos lead actuary you will work with our insurance and data teams to conduct analysis of risk trends loss costs build models to forecast expected costs recoveries and exposures.

What you will do

  • Apply advanced actuarial knowledge to support broad and complex projects (e.g. evaluates and selects methodology to determine expected ultimate costs of protection programs recoveries programs subrogation and in support of trip pricing; develops alternative methodologies to comply with complex regulatory requirements; selects metrics and designs processes to monitor model performance; translates business problems into technical requirements and performs required analysis to develop solutions; independently runs liability attritional and large loss models and interprets and communicates results to support critical business activities while enhancing the control environment as needed.

  • Utilize advanced actuarial mathematical or statistical techniques to augment actuarial work product.

  • Lead special actuarial projects such as the development of new methodologies or reporting tools.

  • Train analytics and data team members on the theory and mechanics of relevant actuarial methodologies.

  • Apply deep understanding of products supported stakeholders needs and industry trends to solve unstructured business problems.

  • Identify and anticipate compliance gaps and process improvements; recommends and develops solutions to mitigate risk.

  • Represent Actuary in cross-functional efforts.

  • Develop written communication and presentations that effectively convey data-driven solutions to broad audiences including cross-functional executive leadership.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified measured monitored and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

  • Support financial audit requests including presenting methodologies and assumptions used to calculate accrual rate to KPMG on a regular basis

Your profile

  • Demonstrated advanced skills with relevant actuarial mathematical and statistical techniques and approaches used to support fact-based decision-making.

  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools data visualization developing analysis queries and procedures in Python R SQL SAS BI tools or other analysis software and relevant industry data & methods and ability to connect external insights to business problems.

  • Demonstrated experience communicating complex solutions and analysis to both technical and nontechnical audiences including executive leadership.

  • Strong attention to details: must produce accurate work products proactively identify issues to be resolved

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS degree required ideally in mathematics or statistics. Masters degree preferred

  • 7 years of Actuarial experience

  • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) Credential.

For this role the target base salary range for Phoenix and San Francisco is $152000-$200000 annually and your recruiter can share more about the specific range for your location. This role is also eligible for equity and benefits. In general our ranges reflect the minimum and maximum market-based targets for the role based on its level and location and are subject to change. Within the range individual pay is determined by objective factors assessed during the application and interview process such as job-related skills experience and relevant education or training. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule Turists will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays.
