The HR Programs and Services unit manages the universitys benefits medical leaves work-life HR compliance learning and development and recognition programs for all employees. The unit provides HR support services to the campus community and is responsible for generating and distributing HR communications to all university employees. The unit develops and maintains HR programs in collaboration with campus stakeholders to support university leadership and institutional priorities.
HR Programs & Services is a unit within Human Resources in the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the universitys many departments providing key resources to employees and keeping the campus safe clean accessible and beautiful.
The Benefits Coordinator is the subject matter expert on health and welfare benefits for the university. This position is the liaison to the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) and other related agencies and is responsible for implementing the statewide programs through enrollment status changes and annual open enrollment. This position provides information to faculty staff dependents retirees and beneficiaries regarding UO benefits including insurance plans retirement plans tax-deferred investment options flexible spending accounts and optional benefits (life disability accidental death and long-term care). The Benefits Coordinator provides assistance and support to the medical leaves program as needed and requires the ability to monitor interpret and apply applicable state and federal laws rules institutional policies procedures and program requirements as they relate to health and welfare benefits. The person in this position must support diversity and inclusion in every aspect and responsibility associated with the job.
This position is based in Eugene with some level of flexibility including the option to work remotely with frequent commuting to campus. All adjusted work arrangements require supervisor and leadership approval.
This position reports to the Associate Director of Benefits.
Two years experience in benefits administration human resources or related field
Experience working with health insurance plans flexible spending accounts retirement plans and/or tax-deferred investment programs
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software and databases
Familiarity with federal and state laws which affect benefit plan administration
Ability to accurately process large volumes of detailed information in a timely manner
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Flexibility to shift directions quickly when priorities change recommend creative solutions to problems and deliver against tight deadlines
Demonstrate commitment to the highest standards of work product confidentiality and integrity
Excellent communication skills including written and presentation skills; ability to effectively communicate complex information to individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
Strong interpersonal collaboration customer service and teamwork skills
Ability to navigate sensitive topics with customers in stressful situations
Bachelors degree
Working knowledge of Banner HRIS system
Experience working in higher education or in the public sector
Experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements
