The Patent Counsel is responsible for supporting technology collaboration agreements development of carefully curated patent portfolios managing a docket of active prosecution including efficient management of outside counsel agreement support and creation of intellectual property insights for competitive intelligence and to support new products. This role will be an integral part of the Companys in-house legal department.
This position reports to the Deputy Chief IP Counsel and is part of the Legal Department located in Indianapolis IN and will be an on-site role in Indianapolis IN or Loveland Co.
In this role you will have the opportunity to:
Conduct IP landscape studies to identify trends in a technology field deliver competitive intelligence and identify potential product development licensing or enforcement opportunities.
Manage an active patent docket including working closely with inventors to document new ideas prepare and prosecute patents globally with outside counsel support portfolio to product mapping and strategic utilization of IP for business impact.
Perform patent searches for landscape diligence patentability validity freedom-to-operate and enforcement in the Life Sciences which may include research methods systems reagents & various biologic or physical sciences technical areas.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with business stakeholders and legal team members.
Support the business by advising on a range of open innovation and other agreements with commercial legal and reviewing marketing collateral.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelors Degree in a biological chemical or physical Science.
Experience in life sciences technologies cytometry cell culture/bioprocess immunology or other bioanalytic techniques. Applicants with strong technical qualifications are encouraged to apply.
JD active state bar license to practice and USPTO registration with three or more years of experience in a law firm or in-house counsel role performing patent preparation and prosecution including US PCT EPO or other global jurisdictions.
Skilled in developing patent search methodology and in conducting searches.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex information to clear and concise client-useable content
Travel Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
Ability to travel up to 15% travel expected
It would be a plus if you also possess:
Advanced degree in biological or chemical sciences
Experience negotiating and supporting collaboration licensing and other complex agreements
Experience in literature and technology searching.
Experience in diligence for IP related transactions.
Experience in patent litigation in life sciences technology areas.

The salary range for this role is $00 This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
