Job Description:

The Master of Health Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant (MHSAA) program in the College of Health Professions (CHP) seeks an Instructor of Anatomy and Physiology as full-time faculty to teach coordinate maintain and supervise Human Anatomy laboratory activities. The faculty member shall have responsibility of teaching laboratory sessions for student anesthesiologist assistants (SAAs). The successful candidate will work under the direction of the MHSAA course director prepare anatomical specimens for instruction assist in the logistics of instruction and evaluation provide student instruction and support assist with research and perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent must be a motivated and engaged individual who is excited to help build an innovative and dynamic education program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare laboratory exercises in conjunction with MHSAA course syllabus and lectures
  • Work closely with the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences and Lab Manager tocoordinate gross anatomy lab usage
  • Set up laboratory specimens and accompanying teaching tools for laboratory sessions
  • Assist in the development organization and conduct of the anatomy course
  • Grade assignments quizzes practicals/exams remediations and other assessments in collaboration with the MHSAA course director
  • Arrange and conduct open lab hours and reviews which may include after hours and on weekends
  • Perform cadaveric prosection/dissection as prescribed by the MHSAA course director
  • Supervise/carry out the physical set-up and preparation of equipment and materials needed foranatomy labs as well as return equipment and materials to storage and related clean-up tasks
  • Establish and maintain consistent office hours to be available to students and faculty
  • Maintain consistent schedule of arriving and being present at least thirty minutes prior toclass and/or lab
  • Assist the MHSAA course director in developing course and research project materials
  • Assist with data collection analysis and processing
  • Assist with research conduct and documentation and in writing research reports
  • Documentation development searching retrieving and synthesizing literature record-keepingand report preparation
  • Other duties may be assigned in accordance with curricular objectives learning outcomes and research related needs

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or equivalent from a graduate/professional institution in a life science field
  • Completed two semesters of Human Anatomy
  • Demonstrates good technical lab skills relevant to dissection/prosection of cadavers
  • Experience teaching in an academic laboratory setting knowledge of medical
  • terminology and clinical anatomy
  • In-depth knowledge of prevention of occupational hazards and laboratory safety
  • Experience using medical images (ie CT MRI US) as anatomy teaching tools
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and learning management systems
  • Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines reliably
  • Able to pay keen attention to details
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Preferred:

  • Medical or health professions degree
  • Clinical experience in direct patient care
  • In-depth knowledge of point of care ultrasound (POCUS)
  • Excellent teaching skills
