Job Description

Position Description:


The PreK/K Special Education Coordinator is responsible for providing technical direct and
consultative services to all special education and general education preschool students their
families teachers and staff in elementary schools and sites housing district programming.


Reports To:


Director of Early Childhood Education


Scope of Responsibility:

Attends ODRs IEP meetings as necessary.
Works cooperatively with pupil appraisal and early intervention personnel to ensure completion of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process for children approaching three years of age.
Assigns all incoming preschool students who qualify for services through the Preschool Early Intervention Program to a Community/Home Itinerant or Preschool Early Intervention Program
teachers caseload.
Makes site determination decisions for PreK/K special education students in Jefferson Parish schools.
Compiles and keeps current a database of all preschool students with a current IEP receiving services
through classroom and community based programs.
Conducts staff development for all Early Childhood related employees which include but are not
limited to administrators teachers paraeducators strategists social workers and interdepartmental
staff.
Assists the Early Childhood Department in meeting federal state and local responsibilities regarding
the ongoing monitoring implementation and assistance to teachers and principals with completing
Teaching Strategies Gold (TS Gold / TS Gold OSEP) student records and CLASS (Classroom
Assessment Scoring System) observations.
Assists administrators and teachers in coaching activities around developmentally appropriate
practices CLASS and TS Gold data collection to ensure quality programming in our early childhood
programs. Work cooperatively with the Early Childhood Department with assessing needs planning
developing implementing and reviewing strategies and interventions as requested for general and
special education students.
Collaborates often with Director of Early Childhood Education and principals to ensure program
guidelines and budgetary compliance is met.
Assists Director of Early Childhood Education with completion of all observation/evaluation
Activities for preschool staff under the direct supervision of the Director of Early Childhood.
Assists Director of Early Childhood Education with completion of all reports including but not limited
to monthly quarterly and yearly reports to the Louisiana Department of Education US Department of
Education etc.
Organizes and plans PK registration under the direction of the Director of Early Childhood Education
for all Early Childhood Education programs.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Education.

Skills and Qualification:


We seek detailoriented independent selfstarters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment toraising studentachievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging candidates will also demonstrate and/or possess:


Certification in Special Education or equivalent.
An earned Bachelors Degree in education from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience three (3) years of certified PreK teaching

experience.
Successful and documentable experience that impacted student achievement.
High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities

while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.
Ability to organize and motivate people.
Ability to conduct effective meetings and staff development activities.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Integrity initiative and good moral character.
Ability to relate to students staff administration parents and community.
Proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision

making and results.
Ability to be visionary and strategic is essential.
Understanding of regulations regarding the operation of Louisiana schools including but

not limited to Bulletinsand 1508.
