Job Description: Financial Coordinator Scattered Site Homeless Apartment Program
Position Title: Financial Coordinator
Location: Scattered Site Housing Program New York City
Reports To: Program Director / Director of Social Services
Salary Range: $70000
The Financial Coordinator is responsible for providing financial guidance education and support to homeless program recipients residing in the scattered site apartment program. This role focuses on helping clients understand and manage their financial responsibilities including rent payments budgeting saving utility payments and other financial obligations required for successful program participation and transition to independent living.
Key Responsibilities:Conduct financial orientation sessions for new program participants to explain rent utility responsibilities and other program-related financial obligations.
Assist clients with creating and maintaining personal budgets to encourage savings and financial stability.
Monitor client rent payments and provide reminders or follow-up on missed payments in collaboration with case management staff.
Support clients in setting up and managing utility accounts and ensure they understand billing cycles and payment processes.
Provide one-on-one financial counseling and workshops on topics such as credit building debt management and saving strategies.
Work closely with case managers and housing specialists to address clients financial concerns and develop individualized financial plans.
Track and document client progress in financial responsibility and maintain accurate records for program reporting requirements.
Collaborate with community partners and financial literacy programs to provide additional resources and referrals for clients.
Identify potential financial barriers to housing stability and assist in developing solutions (e.g. connecting clients to rental assistance or emergency funds).
Prepare monthly financial status reports for program management.
Conduct periodic audits of tenant accounts to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with program guidelines.
Bachelor s degree in finance social work human services or related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
At least 2 years of experience in financial counseling housing programs or working with homeless or low-income populations.
Knowledge of personal finance principles budgeting and credit counseling.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear and supportive manner.
Familiarity with scattered site housing programs and New York State/City housing systems is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word) and case management databases.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

Strong organizational and time management skills.
Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
Empathy and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse populations.
Commitment to promoting housing stability and self-sufficiency for homeless families and individuals.
