Role Description:

Arcadis seeks a Structures Representative (SR)to join the team in Californiatoperform a wide variety of professional engineering work in either an office or field setting; This work is performed on highway construction projects involving bridges buildings walls barriers drainage structures sign structures and appurtenances. The SR works as a field engineer to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with the contract documents (Standard Plans Standard Specifications contract plans and Special Provisions).

The SR reviews the progress of the work to ensure compliance with the contract documents. This will include progressive monitoring of materials and methods used as well as inspection of the finished products before acceptance. The SR assures appropriate measurement payments are made as necessary and all project documentation is completed by departmental policies and procedures. Additionally the SR is responsible to proactively review the contract documents to anticipate identify and/or prepare any change orders needed to resolve conflicts and/or recommend improvements.

Role Accountabilities:

• Provides direction to staff to ensure complete accurate and timely contract records pertaining to construction progress job expenditures budget programs and work order balances are maintained in accordance with the State and Federal regulations and laws.
• Confers with contractors regarding compliance with plans and quality of work and construction activity.
• Performs field inspections of contractors work to determine compliance with plans specifications special provisions utility agreements etc.
• Prepares reports as well as reviews and incorporates the daily inspection reports from Structures Inspectors in documenting the Contractors activities.
• Maintains accurate and complete project records and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Calculates and documents field quantities for payment purposes.
• Documents asbuilt condition of constructed facility.
• Performs construction and engineering inspections and may direct subordinate inspectors. The frequency of inspections is riskbased and includes fulltime intermittent and/or benchmark during all phases of construction.
• Advise Resident Engineer on major phases of construction activity. Reviews informational and action submittals and shop drawings; authorizes shop drawings and action submittals when they are in compliance with the requirements of the approved plans and specifications.
• Performs required calculations such as alignment grade (elevation control) quantities of work performed or materials placed.
• Ability to perform calculations to determine stresses within the various elements of structures (e.g. beams columns etc.) and the contractors temporary works (falsework shoring and temporary structural supports etc.)
• Inspect materials workmanship and/or products. Reject such that are not in compliance with the contract documents and take appropriate action until they are brought into compliance with the requirements of the approved plans and specifications.
• Identifies the need for and prepares contractrelated documents for submission to the contractor.
• Review CPM schedules. Identifies and mitigates project risks.
• Completes a project daily diary of pertinent activities and discussions held regarding the progress of the contractors work and interaction with the Senior Construction Manager.

RequiredQualifications:

• 10 years of experience in Heavy Civil Engineering projects.
• 5 years experience as a Structures Representative on a State Highway System project of at least $30 million.
• Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer

Key Skills and Abilities:

• Prior experience with construction/operations on a State Highway
• Valid California Class C drivers license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Caltrans experience is desirable.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors such as experience education budget internal equity project and location.
