Essential Job Duties

Description

The Assistant Structures Representative (ASR) / Field Engineer supports structural construction oversight on transportation and public infrastructure projects. This role involves assisting the Structures Representative with contract administration construction engineering inspection documentation and coordination for bridge retaining wall falsework and other structural components ensuring compliance with Caltrans standards and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support clients Construction Inspection Division and City of LA with daily field inspections to verify contractor operations related to structural components including cast-in-place concrete structural steel falsework/temporary works precast elements post-tensioning and CIDH Pile Construction.
  • Prepare and maintain checklists for structures inspections field material sampling and testing source inspections in accordance with project plans specifications and contract documents.
  • Assist in verifying that materials methods and workmanship conform to contract documents Caltrans Standard Specifications and the Caltrans Bridge
  • Construction Records and Procedures (BCRP) manual.
  • Maintain detailed field records including daily reports quantity calculations inspection logs and photographic documentation develop punch-lists and as built documentation.
  • Assist with the review and processing of submittals RFIs Field Directives request for task orders change notices and change orders.
  • Monitor contractor progress and participate in schedule reviews and look-ahead coordination.
  • Monitor temporary structures operations for conformance with approved falsework plans erection plans and working drawings.
  • Develop 4-scale drawings grade / elevation sheets for various elements of CIP
  • Post-Tension Box Girder Bridge and verify the grades for various elements of the structures in the field using basic surveying principles and tools.
  • Coordinate materials sampling and testing with clients Labs LA BCA Caltrans METS or other QA entities.
  • Communicate with the client Structures Representative contractor personnel and agency stakeholders to resolve field issues.
  • Assist with punchlists closeout documentation and final reports for structural work.
  • Able to be flexible and workdays nights and/or weekends in heavy construction at elevated heights if needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualification:- Years of Experience/Education/Certificates/Training:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Five or more (5) years of experience on public works or transportation projects with at least some exposure to structural work.
  • Working knowledge of Caltrans Bridge Construction procedures Standard
  • Specifications and relevant manuals (e.g. Falsework Manual).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam; familiarity with structure-specific forms and templates a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate field records.
  • Valid California drivers license and ability to work on active construction sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cast-in-place post-tensioned box girder bridge construction falsework temporary shorings mass soil mixing and retaining walls.
  • EIT certification or on track for PE license.
  • Caltrans Structure Rep training or familiarity with METS processes.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
  • Experience with alternate delivery methods such as progressive design build design-build and/or CMGC.
  • Familiarity with clients Design and Construction Handbook and project delivery procedures.

Wage Requirement

  • Starting Salary range for this job is $137400.00 - $261000.00. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill education experience and working environment
