Primary Purpose:
The Director of Early Childhood Education provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the districts early learning programs including PreK through Grade 2. This role is critical in ensuring that all early childhood initiatives are aligned with state and federal guidelines grounded in the science of teaching reading and numeracy and designed to build strong foundations in literacy numeracy and school readiness. The Director champions access to highquality early education and works to create developmentally appropriate rigorous and inclusive learning environments that prepare every student for longterm academic success.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Masters Degree from an accredited university/college
Valid Texas Teacher Certification
Minimum of 5 years of experience in early childhood education with at least 3 in a leadership or supervisory role.

Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong leadership communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated success in program development staff supervision and stakeholder engagement.
- Science of Teaching Reading (STR): Deep understanding of the components of STR including phonological awareness phonics fluency vocabulary and comprehension.
- Foundational Literacy Development: Knowledge of early language acquisition print awareness alphabetic principle and the progression of reading skills from PreK to Grade 2.
- EvidenceBased Instruction: Ability to implement and support researchbased practices for reading instruction aligned with the National Reading Panel and state standards.
- Assessment Literacy: Proficient in using literacy assessments (e.g. universal screeners progress monitoring tools) to inform instruction and intervention.
- DataDriven Instruction: Skills in analyzing reading data to drive instructional decisions and support student growth.
- Structured Literacy: Understanding of systematic explicit instruction methods that benefit all learners including students with dyslexia.
- Differentiated Instruction: Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners including English learners and students with disabilities.
- Adult Learning Facilitation: Experience in leading professional development and coaching educators through Reading Academies content and application.
- Instructional Leadership: Ability to support teachers and administrators in implementing reading best practices with fidelity.
- Curriculum Alignment: Knowledge of how to align literacy instruction and interventions with state frameworks district curriculum and TEKS (or applicable standards).
- Foundational Math Concepts: Understanding of how young children develop number sense including counting onetoone correspondence cardinality subitizing and comparing quantities.
- Developmental Progression: Knowledge of the developmental stages of early math learning including the progression from concrete to abstract thinking.
- Mathematical Language: Promoting rich mathematical talk and vocabulary to help students articulate their thinking and build reasoning skills.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and oversee implementation of K2 curriculum and instructional practices aligned with state standards and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of early childhood curriculum aligned with state standards including the Science of Teaching Reading and early numeracy frameworks.
- Support implementation of Reading Academies and other statemandated training.
- Lead the design and delivery of professional development for early childhood teachers instructional aides and administrators focused on early literacy numeracy and child development.
- Use data to evaluate program effectiveness and support continuous improvement..
- Ensure inclusive practices and appropriate services for students with disabilities and duallanguage learners.
- Ensure instructional practices support school readiness and the developmental needs of young learners.
- Analyze student achievement and developmental data to inform program improvements and instructional strategies.
- Guide campuses in using early literacy and math data to driveTier 1 instruction intervention and enrichment efforts.
- Serve as a liaison between district departments school leadership and external agencies on early childhood initiatives.
- Provide regular updates to district leadership and the school board on program impact and needs.

Work Environment: Work is performed in a school environment; frequent meetings and classroom visits required. May occasionally work evenings or weekends to support campus events or district initiatives.
