Job Description

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU) a state and landgrant institution of the University System of Georgia invites applications for the position of Director of Compliance and Coordinator of Student Athlete Success.

Fort Valley State University the only 1890 landgrant university in Georgia is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County the original site of the states peach industry. JOB SUMMARY

A Collegiate Director of Compliance in NCAAmember institutions ensures that all athletic programs and related activities adhere to NCAA regulations and guidelines. This role involves overseeing compliance procedures educating staff and studentathletes investigating potential violations and maintaining records. They also serve as a liaison with the NCAA and other institutions on compliance matters.

MAJOR DUTIES

The Collegiate Director of Compliance plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and fairness of intercollegiate athletics by overseeing and enforcing compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.

Manage daytoday responsibilities of NCAA compliance including monitoring recruiting activities eligibility financial aid amateurism and adherence to playing and practice season rules. This includes providing timely interpretations of NCAA conference and college rules to coaches and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Monitoring and Support:

    • Tracking studentathlete academic progress toward degree completion and NCAA eligibility.
    • Monitoring class schedules grades and attendance.
    • Conducting regular meetings with atrisk studentathletes to provide support and guidance.
    • Providing academic counseling and connecting students with campus resources.

NCAA Compliance:

    • Ensuring compliance with NCAA rules and regulations regarding initial and continuing eligibility.
    • Monitoring and managing NCAA progress towards degree completion and eligibility.

StudentAthlete Development:

    • Developing and implementing life skills programs such as career development and leadership training.
    • Facilitating studentathlete engagement and retention.
    • Promoting a positive and supportive learning environment.

Reporting and Communication:

    • Preparing and submitting regular reports on studentathlete academic status.
    • Maintaining communication with head coaches athletic staff and campus partners.

Other Responsibilities:

    • Assisting with studentathlete recruitment and retention.
    • Providing academic advisement during registration periods.
    • Monitoring study hall hours.
    • Attending athletic events as requested.

Developing and Implementing Compliance Programs:

  • This includes creating and maintaining systems for monitoring compliance with NCAA rules policies and regulations.

Monitoring Compliance:

  • This involves staying current on NCAA rules interpreting them and ensuring they are followed within the athletic department.

Education and Training:

  • Providing staff coaches and studentathletes with education and training on NCAA rules and compliance procedures.

Investigation and Reporting:

  • Investigating potential compliance violations selfreporting infractions and working with the NCAA to resolve issues.

Liaison with NCAA and Other Institutions:

  • Serving as a point of contact for the NCAA conferences and other member institutions on compliance matters.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintaining accurate and complete records of compliance activities including audits and reports.

Budget Management:

  • Managing the compliance budget and ensuring responsible use of funds.

Working with Student Athletes:

  • Ensuring the admissions process and studentathlete eligibility comply with NCAA regulations.

Working with Coaches:

  • Providing guidance to coaches on compliance matters and ensuring their programs adhere to NCAA regulations.

Developing and Chairing Compliance Committees:

  • Leading committees to develop and implement compliance procedures and strategies.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • A thorough understanding of NCAA rules and regulations is essential.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills are needed to effectively interact with staff studentathletes and the NCAA.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g. education psychology counseling).
