Job Description

About Us:

The West Daly Regional Council covers 14000 square kilometres and is located about 300 to 420 kilometres southwest of Darwin. The area is mainly rural with three Indigenous communities at Peppimenarti Nganmarriyanga and Wadeye which are managed by West Daly Regional Council (Council).

Position Summary:

The Communications & Engagement Officer is responsible for creating and executing communication strategies aimed at increasing Council brand visibility and engagement. This role involves creating content implementing communication plans and managing endtoend campaign activities across multiple channels. The position also focuses on enhancing the Councils digital presence through the production of content for social media websites newsletter and branding materials in accordance with West Daly Regional Council strategic and regional plans policies procedures and relevant legislation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute towards liaison with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration and to develop and implement communications marketing and engagement strategies that deliver on Councils strategic goals.
  • Contribute towards copywriting and editing services for internal and external communications materials including publications newsletters brochures website and social media content.
  • Provide subject matter expert level advice and services incorporating industry benchmarks and trends current research and innovations.
  • Oversee all internal and external communications for the Council ensuring its message is consistent and engaging.
  • Assist with the engagement and management of the outputs of consultants and creative service providers including graphic designers web developers editors photographers videographers and printers to ensure the delivery of projects on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies that build on good customer experience and satisfaction and ensure all council services are measurable through customer satisfaction.
  • Perform short and longterm projects within specific program including development review reporting benchmarking and adapting current systems.
  • Plan implement manage monitor and upgrade the Councils website. Create website content that is supportive of the Councils objectives and develop strategies to increase website traffic.
  • Design campaigns signage posters and any other materials to target specific audiences placing an emphasis and discipline on overall effectiveness and performance to help with recommendations for future programs.
  • Ensure programs meet and adhere to Council brand communication and procurement policies and guidelines and best practice is maintained in all communications marketing and engagement activities.
  • Monitor and understand local government industry news cycles and make recommendations on potential opportunities and topics to embrace/avoid.
  • Partner with People and Culture to execute branding initiatives for recruitment onboarding and recognition and retention.
  • Any other reasonable duties delegated by the line manager.
  • About You

    The successful applicant will possess:

    Cert IV in Marketing Communication Digital Marketing or social media or equivalent qualification and/or considerable experience in a similar position in Local Government.

    Strong writing editing proofreading layout and design professional printing/publishing skills including ability to present concepts verbally.

    A professional customer focused manner and ability to facilitate and work with all levels of employees and management to achieve improved strategic and operational outcomes.

    Demonstrated experience/capacity in providing reliable and professional advice to management at all levels across a broad range of issues relating to the specialty program.

    Demonstrated ability to autonomously run projects document processes and take ownership of complex and specialised tasks.

    Demonstrated experience with all types of social media (e.g. Facebook Twitter Instagram etc.).

    Excellent written analytical and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate across all levels and different and complex cultural settings.

    National Criminal History Check clearance and Current Working with children/Ochre Card.

    Current Northern Territory Drivers Licence.

  • Generous base salary of $85912.23 to $91541.06 per annum based on experience and qualifications
  • 11.5% Superannuation
