Position purpose

Responsible for identifying evaluating and fostering meaningful on and offcampus partnerships both domestically and abroad in Africa with the ultimate goals of advancing the Universitys strategic vision for internationalization generating revenue and strengthening the Universitys presence on a global stage.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Identifies develops and drives international business development and revenuegenerating opportunities abroad including but not limited to collaboration with government entities public and private enterprises universities and NGOs thereby contributing to the attainment of institutional priorities as defined in Transformation 2030.
  • Plans and leads international missions annually to region of geographic responsibility. Provides support and coordination for other international missions as needed.
  • Plans organizes and coordinates diplomatic visits to the University and leads on followup actions as required. Serving as primary point of contact for ambassadors and embassy staff from countries within their region of responsibility provide guidance on potential university partnerships and participates in codeveloping initiatives.
  • Manages financial resources (a budget) for international missions and local hospitality for international stakeholders specific to their region of responsibility.
  • Provides regionspecific guidance on protocol national customs cultural practices and business etiquette necessary for successful partnership relations.
  • Identifies develops and champions new sponsorship scholarship and partnership programs based on businessdata analysis as relevant for the region specified. Strives towards operational efficiency in of programs to reduce operational costs while maximizing the institutions reputational and financial gain.

Knowledge Experience and Skills

Masters degree in business marketing international relations or other relevant fields or equivalent combination of education and experience.

At least 5 years meaningful and progressive experience in partnership development governance international education marketing student recruitment or other related experiences.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of diplomatic protocol.

Extensive knowledge and expertise of the region of responsibility acquired through substantial academic professional or personal experience in Africa.

Proven experience with the use of analytical methods.

Demonstrated success and strong business and partnership development skills preferably in the international education industry. Proven ability to innovate and create longterm relationships are essential.

Experience navigating conflicting interests and negotiating mutually beneficial agreements.

Understanding of the nature and needs of postsecondary institutions government agencies and public and private education organizations in Canada and around the world.

Excellent communication skills to interact with various clients and team members. Ability to clearly present information in writing to internal and external parties.

Motivated and driven to identify and develop new opportunities

Proactive autonomous and able to work with limited supervision.

Proficient computer skills including experience with the use of a CRM and SIS system.

Ability and willingness to travel domestically and abroad as well work outside of regular business hours or on weekends.

Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships.

Demonstrated experience in budgeting and financial planning.

Excellent language skills: advanced bilingualism French and English (spoken and written); additional languages from region of responsibility are assets.

The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.

Prior to May 1 2022 the University required all students faculty staff and visitors (including contractors) to be fully vaccinated against Covid19 as defined in Policy 129 Covid19 Vaccination. This policy was suspended effective May 1 2022 but may be reinstated at any point in the future depending on public health guidelines and the recommendations of experts.
