Job Description

A wellregarded school in Chelmsford is seeking a dynamic and dedicated 2nd in Charge of Science to join its talented and supportive faculty. The successful candidate will be excited to help lead the Science department in its continued success working alongside the Head of Science to provide excellent education for students.

The Role
This leadership role involves supporting the Head of Science in the management and development of the Science department. You will have the opportunity to teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with a specialism in Biology Chemistry or Physics at Key Stage 5. As 2nd in Charge you will assist in curriculum development implement teaching strategies and ensure high standards in student progress. There is a strong focus on collaboration with ample opportunities for professional development and career growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the leadership and management of the Science department.
  • Teach Science across KS3 and KS4 with the opportunity to specialize in a chosen subject at KS5.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and development ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Lead by example providing mentorship and support to staff and students alike.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities to engage students in the subject and enhance their learning experience.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Strong experience in teaching Science with a specialism in either Biology Chemistry or Physics.
  • A formal teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Leadership experience within a Science department (preferred but not essential).
  • Clear DBS check and legal right to work in the UK.
